Flatland BMX.

Yes thats right, as much as I hate it, im going to go with a little bit of 2 wheeling. I have started to do this but am just a begginer. I know some of yall are interested by this and some have done it.
I have a couple questions though.

What type of bike should I get? I want it like under 250 but still a good light bike. Im riding a Mongoose Hoop D right now and it is way too heavy.

Does anyone know of any good websites?
Im buying the DVD “Ground Rules” off of flatlandbike.com

Anymore info is appriciated(or however in the crap you spell it.)

Ive been using my mongoose rouge for all my flatland stuff, they are heavy to lug around, but it never stopped me, kinda like my DX, its heavy, but still good.

I dont know any website good for it either, I always just went to google and did searches on how to do flatland tricks or something like that, you should learn to do a tail whip, they are pretty easy to do.

  1. Go at a medium\fast paced walking speed.
  2. Have your right foot on the left pedal, or left foot on the right pedal.
  3. Take your other foot, the one that is not on the pedal, and shove it between the front tire and the fork while hitting your brakes, this will stop you and fling you up on your front wheel.
  4. With the foot that is on the pedal, use that to kick the frame around you.
  5. Once the frame is on the way back, catch it with the foot that is not on the tire.
  6. Once your foot has caught the frame, doesnt really matter where, I usually put my foot near the seat post, the frame will come back down, take your feet and get them back on the pedals.
  7. Release the front brake ad ride on.

Yeah thats one of the tricks I have been working on…That and a decade.

Man, two things I would LOVE to do are flatland BMX and bike trials… but I don’t want to buy a stinkin’ bike, I already spend too much money on unicycles…

Same with me forrest. I need to upgrade my uni badly, but I also want to get a good bike. AHHH i don;t know what to do ha.

KH.

do both, but one at a time, buy a new uni, use that until you can get a new bike, just regulate between each sport. =p

Check out this thread and some others at the bottom of this one.

Flatland biking is sooo cool. I would so do it if I had a good bike.

felt makes some nice stuff. the ethic is $240 or so and awsome. it comes with 4 pegs to boot.

i love the bikes they use for flatland they look so cool http://www.quamenbikes.com/ProductpageBMX/DELTAPAGE.html

Yeah those bikes from Felt look pretty cool.

That from is very unique unicyclepa.

You mean two bikes.

On Saturday I saw a guy named Dan Hansen (or Jansen?) in a Giant BMX stunt show. He was friggin’ amazing. And so many of the cool tricks seem to be on one wheel! But like unicycling, much of the audience just seems to glaze over on the hard stuff. The average audience member, even though they at least can ride a bike, can’t identify the hard tricks from the easy ones. Just what looks hard. But there were plenty of BMXers there as well, so he actually had an audience that could appreciate his techincal stuff as well. This was at the Modesto Cycling Festival, an even that attracts cyclists and cycling fans. And even John Foss fans, as I’ve been performing there the past six years or so.

Anyway, Dan is some kind of many-times champion and possibly an X-Games competitor. He was obviously very on top of his sport, very in-tune with his bike, and only made two mistakes that I noticed out of many dozens of tricks. Watching that before going out and doing my “elementary” tricks on my artistic bike, I was a little worried. I complimented him in my show, and played up the differences between my bike and his. But somehow, standing on the bike and juggling three clubs gets 'em every time.

Anyway, Flatland BMX is cool, and it’s easier to find an appreciative audience!

I believe you are describing a “tailwhip”. I’m not sure why you say to put the one foot on the opposite pedal, I always did them with the right foot on the right pedal and the left foot on the front tire. Pretty easy trick though, I learned that one back in '83! Rolling tailwhips are much harder, I never did get the hang of that one.

Flatland BMX back in the 80s was alot different than today’s riding. I did stuff like cherrypickers, gut levers, rollback 540s, infinity rolls, and of couse wheelies. I have quite a few trophies from competitions I was in from '83 to '87. Todays flatland is much more impressive, I would love to learn some of it. But the cool thing about back in the day was that it was new, and people hadn’t seen it, so “wowing the crowd” was easy!

I remember when we used to do parades, one trick that always blew everyone away was when I would bunnyhop over the seat of a bike that my buddy was balancing stationary on using his feet on the front wheels and sitting on the handles bars. I can remember doing that and hearing the crowd go silent as I made my approach, collectively gasping when I launched, and then breaking into thunderous applause and cheering when I completed the manuever. It was an incredible feeling that I will never forget!

I’m currently thinking about buying a new bike to.
As since many years my heart goes out to flatland as well I now doubt between

And KHE’s Equilibrium

of that last one I made some more detailed pics myself:

I just need a whole new bike haha. Im working on wheelies on the back peg with 1 foot. I dont know if that will help with flatland though but maybe.

I like both of those frames. I wish I had one lol.

KH.

dude thats like my life story!

I decided to take up BMX flatland too. It is really graceful and beautiful. A lot more so than unicycle flatland.

I love uni flatland too, but in a different way.

Is there anyone here that unicycled first then took up BMX?

I’ve heard that BMXers often learn unicycling very fast compared to the “normal” population. I wonder if the same is true for uni to BMX.
