File Hippo has the current Flash plugin along with other useful select downloads
Chears for the link John, but I think I just discoved the problem is alot less worse. I t says its done downloading yet when ever I go to a site like youtube or metacafe it dossn’t seem to recognise I have it
That downloads an installer program (EXE). You need to close all your browser windows and then run the installer. There is one installer for IE and a different one for Firefox.
hhmmmmm still not working, could there be anything blocking it from working?
If you’re talking about on youtube, then you may have addons disabled (or just the flash player addon) in your browser. If you had/have firefox I could tell you how to do it.
Which browser are you using?
Do you have any ad blocking software or ad-ons enabled? Some ad blocking software will block Flash so you’ll need to either disable the Flash blocking or ad the sites you want to view Flash (like YouTube) to a white filter or allow list.
Have your parents enabled any filtering on your computer or internet connection?
I have IE and google tool bar, and my parents don’t/ can’t filter anything.
Assuming you have IE7 rather than IE6
Go to Tools >> Manage Add-ons >> Enable or disable add-ons
Make sure the Shockwave Flash Object is enabled
well its enabled, however on youtube if I hit refresh it suddn’t works yet this dossn’t work on any other site
You could try Firefox just to see if the problem is with the browser or with Windows. It is possible that your HOSTS file got changed to block ads and as a side-effect has blocked you from Flash sites.
So try Firefox and install the Firefox Flash installer from filehippo. If it works there then we know that it is IE and not Windows that is having a problem.
As a desperate resort you can go in IE7 and reset all the settings
Tools >> Internet Options >> Advanced tab and click on “Reset…”.
You’ll then have to reinstall Flash for IE and get other settings all configured again.
Is there a way to reset the HOSTs file only?
The HOSTS file is a text file. Here’s instructions on editing it: How to edit hosts file
The trick with Vista is that you need elevated privileges to edit and save the hosts file.
Edit the hosts file and save it with the following (delete everything except for what is here):
# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
127.0.0.1 localhost
nice, when I’m not to tired i’ll look into if that editing website is a possible solution.
