Five ways to spice up a KH 27.5 Muni!

Five ways to spice up a stock KH 27.5 Muni!

  • Swap out the Crux 3.25 for a narrower, lighter tire like the Maxxis Rekon 2.8 or Minion DHR 2.8.

  • Replace the 137mm cranks with 150mm

  • Upgrade the brake

  • Fit a handlebar

  • Replace the pedals

SPICEY!

The other ideas are perfect, though!

Haha not for me! Short cranks are cool but for the majority of my riding, the 127/150mm crank is a better option.

I think it was an interesting spec choice on the stock KH 27.5 - 117/137mm cranks combined with the 3.25" tire… an identity crisis?

I think the thing with cranks is that you’re best with what you’re used to. If you mostly ride a specific length, you don’t necessarily have the fine motor control dialled in to ride something different to the same standard without practice. As someone that has standardised on 3 crank lengths (89, 117, 137) - for me, i don’t see an issue.

I wonder if the decision to spec the 24 and 27.5 KHs with 117/37 rather than 127/50 as found on the 29 is to offset the reduction in speed of the smaller wheels. As the wheels are lighter, less force is required to turn them so the “gearing” can be slightly higher.

That being said, the Crux is a chonky tyre and thinner tyres are definitely a reasonable choice. I’m using a 2.35 Hans Dampf on my 29er and wouldn’t really want anything thicker.

For me 150 is way too long, 125/114/75 are great
