FIRST Robotics: 2007

We unicyclists seem like a smart bunch, so I’m sure many of you must be involved with this program. (For those of you that aren’t, see here: www.usfirst.org )

Regional competitions are well under way, and with week two of competitions over I thought I would share the good news about my high school’s team (# 1726). We attended the Arizona regional in Phoenix, very eager to see how our robot would do in competition. On practice day we were one of the very few teams to actually have a working robot scoring ringers (pool tubes) on the rack, and by the end of eliminations we had managed to put up the high score of the regional. We went into the eliminations as the 4th seeded team out of the 34 teams that attended and managed to make it to the finals, where we lost after 3 exciting matches. I’m pretty proud of our team, we came out as finalists and won three other awards! I had a blast and can’t wait to see how we do at our next regional.

So how many of you are on a team and competing this year, and how is your team doing? Post pictures of your bots if you’ve got em. If you’re not on a team, then start one right now at your nearest local high school!

I worked on one for our HS but I didn’t go to the competition.

When I worked at Intel we used to get occasional visits by our local FIRST team. They were one of the only (the only?) UK team in the competition - their robots were pretty cool. I’m not sure I could have done anything like that when I was in highschool!

I did something like that once, at the U of I they have something called a Mars Rover Competition, where teams of elementary school kids build Mars Rovers’ out of legos and then do a bunch of stuff like a hill climb test to see how steep of a hill it can go up, and a speed course, and picking up rock samples…and stuff like that. It was fun (:

I am on a FIRST team, #1519. we didn’t do as good as spudmans team:(. We went to a regional competition in NH. We didn’t get our robot working, so basically we played defense, and somehow we got ranked third, but we lost our elimination matches.
Good Luck 1726 at your next regional!

I don’t think it was called FIRST, but I did something like this with my middle school team (8th grade) where we competed again high schools. Won 1st for the city and then 8th or something at state. I think it was called BEST, not FIRST.

Yeah, this was it, just googled a bit:
