Hello all! I’ve been lurking here on the forum for a few weeks now. My 10-year-old son recently got into uni. As with other endeavors, I’ve gotten in the fray as well.
I’m happy to say that after a few weeks of speratic practice, I ventured outside of our back-yard and out into public this weekend! We road approx 2 miles on both dirt and pavement. Things have clicked and I’m really starting to have fun.
Currently riding a borrowed KH24. Pondering a purchase. 24" seems slow. But so is my son’s 20"…
I would expect younger kids to pick up unicycling faster because their center of gravity is easy to find.
Once one hits puberty and starts having growth spurts, some areas grow faster than others, throwing off that center of gravity you’ve enjoyed for the past 12 er 13 years.
Amirite in thinking this?
Either way, that kid can ride. I can’t imagine where he’ll be in a year. Certainly further than me!
Nice. Just 3 weeks and already working on trials, I see…
Yeah, riding in public can make you really nervous at first, but keep in mind that everyone who sees you is in awe of your balancing skills. There will be a few jerks who say “heh, that looks so stupid.”
KICK 'EM IN THE NUTS!!!
But keep in mind what some passers-by once told me - “You’re f*ckin awesome!”
