First day of school

Here in California, today is the first day of the school year. Beau started
5th grade and had decided a while ago that he wanted to ride to school on
the ultimate wheel. It took him almost 40 minutes, but he made it - lots of
persistence as much of the way is far from flat. Here are a couple of

Anyone else have a uni-first day of school?

Beau-

What a cool accomplishment. How far is it to your school?

Re: First day of school

Way to go, Beau! Hey, Beau knows UW’ing! (sorry, old TV commercial).

We have no less than seven kids meeting at our house every morning now since school started last week to uni to school. It’s a sight!

Re: First day of school

Nathan,

That’s great, what a hoot! My kids want me to order an ultimate for them
to play with. After seeing your photos I might just have to go for it.

Cheers,

Jason

If it counts I rode my uni onto campus the day before the first day of classes to try to get some freshman to try and subsuquentailly join the Campus fools in running amuck on uni’s. I think it worked we recruted almost 60 peoples email adresses. That means we hopefully will have 10 or so new people joining!

Watch out Pittsburgh! The fools are growing!

ps your kid rocks! when I was 10 I was still on 2 wheels and a frame!

Way to go Beau! So how’d it go down with the rest of his schoolmates? I’ll
bet he caught the eye of several young ladies

I wish!

<Anyone else have a uni-first day of school?>

I too rode my ultimate wheel to school recently (our school started a week ago). I only took me 25 minutes though I thought I would take 45 or so. Its about one mile there and there is a very large and VERY steep will right in the middle. It was suprisingly easy to get down. I could only go about four blocks or so before I fell off (in a city that may be a long way but here four blocks is 400M). Mabye 8 UPD’s

Hmm, so where do you mount the cycle computer/magnet on an ultimate wheel?

I wore my Unicyclist.com shirt to my first big day of school. I would have ridden but unfortunately my order was messed up for the 2nd consecutive time in a row. Bah hum bug.

Re: First day of school

riding into grade 10

i just got my nimbus 2 frame today. it took a while UPS and Totaly Delivery are COOL! not.

Dylan helped me set it up.
To much of my own discouragement. i have to re-learn how to do everything…since i learnt everything on a dinky little norco uni.

ANYWAY!! school being only 5 days away. i am going to be pracising hard. and i WILL be riding into grade 10 lol…on the first day and everyday

Happy Trails.

-way to go Beau. u rock!!!

while i am still angst riddin about my seat adapter,i have to mention that order misshap or no’ MY KH20 arived at my door with a buetiful Chrome Profile arm pierced though the cardbored box…out in front of God an country from East to West coast. :astonished:

i saved the box.if i ever own a didgy cam i will reinact the episode.

i love unicycle.com but for crying out loud does my $1000 dollar uni have to be shipped in a $5 dollar box?–it was 3-day select too but it took 6:(

If you read this you would know why it didn’t get to you in 3 days…

Here’s my story:
Called up two Mondays ago and ordered everything for my Semcycle XL freestyle machine. I never get a UPS tracking number, so I call on Thursday and they tell me it went out that night. Suprisingly it made it here by Monday afternoon. Open the box, spokes are wrong and no bearing holders. I also forgot to order bearings. So I call and speak with Amy, she says she will take care of everything. The next Monday I have a package. Included: new spokes, bearings, and a stamp to send back the old spokes. No bearing holders, again! So I called back and asked for Amy, she was busy so I spoke to Jared? He said he would ship them out to me ASAP. That was Monday, it’s Friday now and nothing yet. They should be here today since I live in Florida! If Monday passes without them, I’m going to be really pissed. Because I don’t have my parts, I can’t get anything powdercoated. Because my powdercoating isn’t done, I can’t get my wheel built. Because nothing is going right, I can’t ride to school, or anywhere for that matter.

Re: First day of school

Sounds like Mr. Peck may soon be getting a run for his money. Excellent job, Beau!

Re: Re: First day of school

I would exect it should work if you put a large (to compensate for lack of precision) magnet on your ankle.

Re: First day of school

I uni to school every day i don’t mean to brag but i’ve made it there witha full backpack and trumpet,

Beau ultimate wheeling has inspired me to start ultimate wheeling

Aaron

Beau,
Here in Houston we have a place called “the picnic loop” -a one mile loop inside a park closed to vehicular traffic -sometimes. It’s refered to as “the fruit loop” by many cyclists, and they use it often after dark since it is well lighted and one of the few places to (safely) ride after dark. While I was learning to UW, I decided to test myself by seeing if I could ride around it. Once I started, and the bicyclists kept zooming past me, I was commited to completing it. It took me a long time, but it was a great feeling. I got a lot of emails from my fellow (bi)cycling club members afterwards asking me why I would try such a ridiculous feat, and wondering why I would punish myself so. They didn’t understand the point. A whole lot of folks have cycled around that loop a whole lot of times -but I’ll bet only a handful have done it on an ultimate wheel.
I hope your ride was as memorable as mine.
Jer

Re: Re: First day of school

quite simply or the sake of bragging, I have made it home with 11 3’ by 4’ sheets of 1/8 inch heavy chip board, a 24" by 36" portfolio full of many pads of large drawing paper, and a messenger bag. ya thats right.

and i think the ankle/magnet idea is perfect for the cycle computer. I was thinking the same thing myself.
