First Aid Mode?

So Tonight I had a very interesting night.

I went to the last show ever at my favorite club that unfortuantlly is turning into apartments this summer. Dont ask why it a long story that ends with the main promoter is an asshole.

So Durring the berlin projects set (last band) there was a girl 13 years old, I didnt catch her name that was passed over head. Every thing seemed completly normal and then at the end of the song we all heard a horrible thud. I figured it was a hip hitting the ground and expected the girl to pop right back up. That did’nt happen though. Suddenly there were people screaming for help. I instantlly went over and I just knew what to do. This is the first major first aid injury that I’ve ever had to deal with as a first responce. For some reason I just knew what to do and didnt question myself at all. The girl had fallen and hit her head and was unconcious. So I yelled for people to give her space and stop the show and checked her vitals. She was breathing and thus had a pulse. (I checked it anyway) By the time the Security guards were there they figured that she was fine and passed out durring the show and wanted to move her away. I had to insist on it by the point of stepping in where if they were going to move her they would have to kick my ass first. And they could. A few moments later an EMT was on the sceen and steped in. I went on to croud control to give him some space to work.

The biggest thing for me is that when I think about it, I did not think about my actions. They just flowed out of me. Lucky for this girl my insincts just happend to be the right ones that I accredit to years of being first aid certified by numerous orginizations.

Fuck, I really thought this was the kind of shit you only read about but today it makes it alot closer to home.

Nice work Mike! That must have been very intense! I always wondered what would happen with all my years of First Aid training…if I needed it.

I hope I’m up to the task as you were!

Wish you would have been there when I broke my neck. I got up and started walking around, oops.

Do you know if that caused any further damage?

Didn’t cause any further damage. When you get a compression fracture on your C2 vert you usually can move your neck at all, like in my case. My neck was so stiff I couldn’t move it if I wanted to. Everything would out extremely well for me, I really lucked out.

whoa yeah, its crazy how the “mode” just kicks in.ive had to use my training twice.both in choking situations.

one time was my own son at 9 months,he got hold of a peanut and jammed it in there far enough to block the wind pipe! like a robot i automaticly checked for an obstruction then gave the kiddie version of the Hymlic (differant from the adult version)

the other time was on a 2 year old who thought a “little smoky” suasage didnt need to be chewed .it got lodged in her throat and she was gagging.i ran over an grabbed her by the abdomen and with a quick palm to her back and a squeeze, the little smoky shot accross the room!

amazing how it just clicks…

My first aid/cpr certs recently got me out of 20 hours of community service.

Re: First Aid Mode?

 This is not the right thing to do…

…Nice job. I was sort of in same situation when I was at a student party and some guy started puking. He was in bad shape and there was blood in the puke. We called an ambulance. Some idiots were just laughing around at the guy. It was quite funny looking when I carried him indoors with a friend of his. The other guy was almost passed out and so I was carrying a guy who was almost 30 kg heavier than me and a a guy was sort of leaning to him.
