Firefox Failing Me..

Yes, it is true.
I’ve tried everything listed on the firefox troubleshooting page, I’ve tried older versions, I’ve tried rebooting, etc.
My firefox cannot load any webpage. All that shows up is a blank screen and it says Done in the bottom left corner. I’ve tried every page in my favorites (over 50) none work.
Yet my IE 6 still works.
Anyone have this similiar problem? Can anyone help me fix it, and relieve me from using IE (which crashes unexpectedly every so often)

Use safari

Ew, I hate safari. Try re-downloading it or something.

I’m not on a MAC.

I’ve tried that about 5 times.

Save your bookmarks.html file to a safe place (it’s in your profile directory structure).

Uninstall Firefox.

Delete your profile directories and other data directories that Firefox creates.

Install Firefox.

Copy the bookmarks.html file back into your profile directory.

That will get you a clean install with a fresh new profile. Most likely what has happened is that something in your profile has gotten messed up.

How do I go about deleting my profile directories and data directories?

Well I figured out how to delete profiles and everything. So I did all that.
Reinstalled firefox. And I am still having the same problem.
Hm…

Are you running any kind of internet security application or third-party software firewall?

It is possible that you have some application that is blocking Firefox from connecting to the internet. Some software firewalls have a feature where you can block individual applications from being able to access the internet. If Firefox somehow got on the block list it would be blocked.

If that’s the case you’ll have to figure out what application is doing the blocking and figure out how to unblock Firefox.

Well the only firewall I have is the windows firewall.
and I’m running AVG viruscan and both of those are allowing Firefox.

Firefox has a safe mode. One of the start menu entries that Firefox creates during the install is one to launch in safe mode. If it works in safe mode then there is something messed up in your profile or one of your extensions.

You could also try running SeaMonkey just to see if that works. SeaMonkey uses the same Mozilla core as Firefox. If SeaMonkey runs then at least we know that the core Mozilla browser code will run on your computer.

Firefox will not load any webpages in safe mode either.

But I did download and run SeaMonkey, and that seems to be working just fine.

I’d give another clean install a try, but make sure to really clean out the old settings before the new install. If something goes really bad in your profile then Firefox will be borked pretty bad. And if any part of your old profile is still around when you reinstall, the new install will pick up those borked settings.

There’s one set of Profile directories at:
Documents and Settings<user>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox
Delete that Firefox directory and everything in it

And another set of Profile directories at:
Documents and Settings<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox
Delete that Firefox directory and everything in it

Then uninstall and reinstall Firefox.

Be sure to save your bookmarks.html file in a safe place first. That’s where all your bookmarks are. Then you’ll be able to restore them once you get Firefox working again.

Deleted both of those. Re-installed.
Still no luck :frowning:
