Anyone else having problems with Firefox crashing while editing a post? It has been happening to me more and more frequently. It seems like the crashes have become more frequent in the last 3 weeks or so but I haven’t been keeping track. Could it be related to the Firefox 2.0.0.2 update? Has something changed in the forum software in that time?
Anyways, the crashes happen while editing a post. All Firefox instances shut down. Fortunately the session recovery works when Firefox is started again so I end up right where I was with all web pages and tabs open to where they were before and surprisingly no text lost in the forum message I was in the middle of.
Lately the Firefox crashes have been happening like every day at least once. Before it was several days between crashes.
Recently I’ve seen a lot less Firefox crashes. Of course I haven’t upgraded my OS (just the downloads from Apple, some of which can be significant). If you’ve moved to Vista I wouldn’t be surprised if there are still a bunch of little wrinkles to be ironed out. One of these days I’ll be installing Windows on the Mac though…
I do like Firefox’s session restore. Recently our house has lot power twice while having work done on it, and each time I rebooted I could open up all the tabs I’d had open before. Nice!
I’m still running XP. Waiting for audio drivers for my sound module before switching to Vista.
I don’t run many extensions. Just
DictionarySearch
DOM Inspector
Locate in Bookmark Folders
VideoDownloader
Web Developer
Those are all well behaved extensions as far as I know.
I will likely save my bookmarks file in a safe place then uninstall Firefox then wipe out the profile directories and other settings directories before installing it again. Something probably got messed up when Firefox updated to 2.0.0.2.
The session restore is neat. It’s nice to have. But it would be nicer if Firefox never crashed.
I uninstalled Firefox and cleaned out all the profile directories. I’m starting fresh again. Still need to get the extensions installed and get my preferred searches configured. It’s a hassle to get everything back the way I like it. Hope it fixes the crashes.
That’s the same. It’s the return key or delete key that kills it. But I also know it’s about to die when the arrow keys stop working in the editor.
I hope my Firefox repair job fixed it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t.
I also have OptOut hardware DEP enabled. I don’t think the crash is caused by a DEP exception, but it’s hard to know for sure without playing Mozilla developer and running a debugger. Instructions for setting up DEP.
uhm actually firefox in windows 2k SP4 does sometimes crash for me, but i mostly use opera in suse 10.2 but firefox never crashes in suse.
if u got the same problem check bugzilla.
i mean i’m guessing ur running the latest version and all… so not much u can do. Try see if a version with no extensions wont crash. I had loads of mozilla 1.4 (long time ago :D) crashes due to multizilla (my fav. extension)…
I had another crash today while editing a post. So there is something more fundamentally wrong than just a possibly corrupted profile. 2.0.0.3 is out now so I’ll give that one a try.
I did a quick search in the bugzilla database and didn’t find anything relevant. But I could have easily missed it.
Ya know, IE7 just might be more stable than Firefox.
Interesting that you’ve been having these problems with Firefox John. Just in the past two weeks or so I have been having a lot of trouble with firefox not being able to open at all. Just keeps saying it can’t find the site it was looking for.
I decided to do an uninstall and reinstall tonight. To be seen if this makes any difference.
Firefox has crashed on me before, a few times, but not regularely on any particular page or site. I wouldn’t touch IE these days even if you forced me.
i dont think firefox has ever crashed on me on build 2. Also, the session restore is very nice and the spell checker is very useful. And, I have used opera, and it is nice, but it really doesnt suit my tastes very well.
Ok, maybe it wasn’t a firefox problem for me afterall. Things deteriorated over the last day or so and today my ADSL connection totally died. Phone company repair guy/gal is scheduled to come by tomorrow. So in the meantime I’m wireless while ‘wired’ at Blenz.
Firefox just crashed again while writing a post. I updated to 2.0.0.3 so the fixes in that update didn’t fix this crashing problem. 2.0.0.3 did have stability and bug fixes in it, but apparently not the fix to fix this problem.
