Finger Pain...

I started hopping a couple of weeks ago and I find it a very useful and
funny task. One saturday, though, I hopped so much that I developped
finger pain which I think might be minor tendonitis on two to three
fingers… I hold my seat with my strongest (right) hand at about 2
o’clock (Viscount seat). Are there any tips to avoid finger pain ? Should
I be more relaxed* ?

Thanks a lot !

Christ.

  • I once tried to relax while hopping and my hand slipped off the seat…
One of my foot slipped off the pedal as well, having me lying on the
ground and understanding the expression “having the uni shooting out
    from under me”…

I “removed” my Viscount front bumper after my first 2 seat-out-front attempts; now is it MUCH easer to grip! Short of a Miyata, I sugest it.

I too am just starting to hop/gap. I highly recommend reading the tutorial at Muniac:

http://www.muniac.com/tips.htm#hopping

If your feet are leaving the pedals regularly, then your tech aint quite right… the instructions at Muniac describe proper tech far better than I can.

Good luck,

Always being more relaxed is good, and comes with practice. But from my
experience, the Viscount seat is not good for hopping. I can only get two
fingers under there. My one and only experience riding the Vancouver
North Shore was on my brand new DM ATU, which still had the stock
Viscount seat on
it. By the end of the day, my hand was killing me.

Get a Miyata seat, or attach a more significant handle to the seat
you’re using.
