Finding things in the galleries

Any one got any good ideas on finding stuff in the galeries, eg, finding albums owned by a particular user?

I’m trying to find one of Kegs and struggling.

Is this it?

I typed “keg site:gallery.unicyclist.com” into google without the quotes and got a few results:

I hope thats the album you were looking for.

Right now Google with the site:gallery.unicyclist.com is the best way to search the galleries. It actually works really well since Google has done a good job of indexing all of the galleries. Maybe Gilby should add a Google search button to the main gallery page that searches with the site:gallery.unicyclist.com parameter. That would be a good temporary fix till the gallery gets updated to the new version and the search will be working again.

Another good search is to search using Google and the site:gallery.unicyclist.com along with the word owner and a user name.
For example:
site:gallery.unicyclist.com owner john_childs
That will find my album on the main list of galleries. With over 70 pages of galleries it can be difficult to find your own albums later. That search will find them and tell you what page it is on.

tell me about it
i google keeps returning links to pages withint those 70-odd that my gallery obviously used to be on
i’m having no joy in finding my gild-in-pics gallery

The Google search has its drawbacks. If Google hasn’t spidered the gallery in a while the search results will be off and less accurate.

I was able to find two of your galleries just a page away from where Google said they’d be.
Authentic-P-O-S-in-Johannesburg is on page 16
gildinpics is on page 56

You can also check the Google Cache for your pages in the results. Looking at the cached page can give you enough info to be able to find your album in the real gallery.

thanx
i managed to find them using a simmilar approach that only occured to me after my lil’ rant
(and then i went for lunch and didn’t think to mention that i did in fact find them - sorry)

i don’t know too much about the mechanics of internet searching
as this page i happened upon yesterday made abundantly clear

There bused to be a search on the gallery, but for some reason it is gone. I book marked my gallery’s after the search dissapeared.

good thinking

but i think i’m against forced ‘busing’

It got so hard to find my galleries that I finally took the time to move them into one main gallery. Then, I bookmarked the main gallery and it just takes me to my top page.

http://gallery.unicyclist.com/HarpersUniPhotos

takes me to the top and I can branch from there. All my galleries are in there and I think there are several sub-sub galleries like different days for NAUCC or UNICON.

I found that to be the easiest organizational technique but someone else would have to know it to find my galleries. For me to find yours or someone else’s is somewhat tricky and time consuming.

can u actually ‘move’ a gallery or did u have to go and recreate them in that master gallery?

There is a provision to move an album when you are logged onto the galleries and are the owner of the album to move. It’s in the “EDIT ALBUM” pull down menu for the album. I think I created a top album and moved all of my others into it. I don’t remember for sure so I could be lying to you. You’re accustomed to that, though.
