Just watched this amazing documentary on the genesis of Helvetica, the font.
Who knew 26 letters could be so interesting?
What’s your favorite font?

Has to be Times New Roman, only because I learned how to draw each letter by hand whilst in college.
Yes, this was before computers.
All we had were Letraset catalogues.
Sweet.
Oh wow. I HATE Time New Roman. It’s so…boring.
I am fond of Helvetica. I also like Baskerville, Garamond and Univers as well.
Comic Sans.
It’s probably in there somewhere…
+1
You two being serious about comic sans?
Where’s John?
Me too. That’s why I like ANY font except Times New Roman.
I was always a chartpak guy.
Ah, yes. I recently discovered several sheets of that from “back in the day”, back when I was originally the editor of On One Wheel and then the IUF newsletter.
Times New Roman? Snore. Useful? Essential? Yes. Exciting? No. Readable. Also the default font of Web browsers in the early days, so if you didn’t say otherwise, that’s what you got. Not so readable onscreen if too small, as well.
Helvetica is so versatile, and is such a huge family, it fits all sorts of uses. Also it’s a favorite of many corporations. I believe the Intel logo is done in Helvetica Neue Light Extended. Or was.
Do I have a fave? I don’t think so. The idea is to have choices, so you can keep things interesting! My favorite for Web, out of the very short list of “universal” fonts, is probably Verdana, followed by Arial.
I use Chiller
I sure hope not. Seriously, TNR and CS are probably my two most despised fonts.
Man, I just realized how much Graphic Design classes have warped my mind.
Philistines.
Actually I’m just waiting for some clown to say ‘Shatter’.
I may not be responsible for my actions when that happens.
Yeah, Verdana and Helvetica are up there, but the real question is…
Serifs or sans serifs?
…And has anyone else seen this doc?
I like Cracked Johnny. It’s a creepy looking font. Like chiller.
A related question: how many fonts do you have on you computer? I have over 400.
Adobe Garamond and Autodesk City Blueprint. TNR is nice and legible but ultimately boring.
Another Comic Sans fan I’m afraid.
I’ve liked it ever since seeing the Ban Comic Sans site, with all the merchandise featuring Comic Sans.
Thought it was one of the better on-line jokes.
My favorites are Bitstream Vera Sans Mono followed by Microsoft’s Consolas. Both are monospace fonts that look good for text editing needs (source code editing).
I have a bunch of favourites, not sure what order they’re in, but: Halo font; chiller; and courier new 'cos it’s useful for guitar tabs and text art and stuff like that.
Halo font FTW!
