This most unfortunate incident was reported in Yorkshire:
All I have to ask is… why did he turn?
You mean the guy with the video camera, right? Ever tried to push a car, even a small car, up a ramp like that? They might not have made it even if the aim was good…
As for the accident of the thread title, there seems no indication whether he was on the Segway when he fell off the cliff. It would have been hard to fall off without bringing the Segway with you. He may have been doing something off the Segway when this happened. In any case, I guess he has proven that Segways are not cliff-proof.
It could be that the segway either had a malfunction or the self-balancing gyro gave out because the battery was low. If so, a possible scenario is that he was riding near the cliff for the ocean view, and when he was approaching the edge to have a look, he started slowing down. Normally you would just step off the back of the segway when it stopped, but it might have lost power, abruptly, losing the ability to self-balance, bucking him off the front, and over the cliff he went, along with the segway.
oooooh. Rereading the article, plus having seen something on it on TV last night, I realize the Segway was found at the bottom of the cliff; somehow I thought it was found up top. Could have been low battery, or “operator error”, the thing that usually leads to cars at the bottom of cliffs…
…or the guy could have had a stroke or a heart attack while he was riding a perfectly good Segway. Or, maybe it’s a new form of suicide.
Let’s just say he made the ultimate “segue”.
And the guy OWNED the segway company …
