Extreme gliding dream

I had my first big unicycle dream last night. I was gliding fast down a long grassy slope for about a half a mile. I had a brand new pair of shoes on. The rubber on the sole of my gliding foot was being ground off like sawdust, it was just flying off as though I were taking a power tool to it. But I didn’t care cuz I was gliding unbelievably fast and easy.

When I reached the bottom of the hill, there was big hole in the the sole and my foot was showing. That was a cool dream.

I guess this has something to do with all the gliding practice I’ve been doing lately

The only real unicycle dream I’ve had was when I had a dream that my unicycle acted like a witch’s broomstick, and all I had to do to fly was pedal and I’d soar through the air. And I’m not sure, but I think I landed on the wing of a plane and went inside to get peanuts. That was around when I woke up, though.

To my knowledge, the longest continuous glide was 0.8 mile. There is nothing
official about this record, but I witnessed it (I did it, with a follow-car
measuring the distance). This was in Binghamton, NY in 1987 or 1988.

Depending on the type of tire and sole you have, sometimes the tire will
grind up more than the shoe. I remember seeing a thin coating of blue dust
clinging to the fork, around the blue tire. But the shoe always seems to get
a hole in the center after a while. Hopefully not all the way through!

Good think it was a dream. Otherwise you’d be hopping around on the other
foot going “Ow, ow, hot, hot!” Definitely a cool dream.

where do you go about getting the balls to take ur feet off the pedals?
its ok in a dream but… you know…
where do you start with gliding??
is it as painful as i’m imagining?
well you have to learn somehow…

i had a gliding dream one time and it was so cool. the next morning i was meeting my freinds to go ride and while i was getting ready i was so excited that i would be able to show them that i could glide. but i thought about it for a little while and could not remember when i learned to do that. then i realized that it all been just a dream. it was so real. so i’ve been trying to learn to glide ever since.

To answer your question, the progression goes something like this

learn one foot riding/idling, get comfortable taking one foot off.
learn wheel walking. A spotter helps.
learn one foot wheel walking - this leads right into gliding
Then there’s coasting, I suppose. I’m still learning gliding.

Obviously this takes a lot of time and practice, but it’s well worth it.

There are some previous posts on all of the above. Some people learn wheel walking first, but I think that’s rare.
