expired names trick

As you know, several registrars like to hold on to expired domains for a
long time (NSI has some they’ve been hanging on to for years – one member
of the OpenSRS RSP’s discussion group says that NSI is holding on to half a
million names this way)

Anyway, someone on the OpenSRS RSP’s discussion group said that they were
watching a Register.com expired domain that wasn’t being deleted. He
e-mailed them about it, and got a reply asking him to phone them, and when
he did they allowed him to register it on the spot.

Now that this is public knowledge, who knows how long it will continue, but
if you’re watching domains at Register.com . . .

Re: expired names trick

“Out of courtesy to our clients we allow them extra time to make a payment
for the domain.”

When I asked when will the name get dropped, they that they will hold it for
at least 60 days after expiration and then “VeriSign will make a decision on
what do with the name”.

Re: expired names trick

we did this with tucows and it worked
it was a domain that someone forgot to renew, and the same person renewed
it, but they let us do it none the less…
