Experiencing dizzy spells lately...

Weird, but lately I’ve been feeling dizzy after standing up and although it only lasts a short time, it’s a little off-putting as its just recently started happening. I did a bit of research online and found out that it’s fairly common, even if you’re in shape, because the heart is pumping slower when you are in good cardio shape, as I am, and the heart naturally beats slower than the average person, which can cause momentary dizzienss upon standing up.

And of course, hypotension, or not enough blood in your system can also be the culprit. I’ve also noticed that in the last couple of days that after a good hard ride, I can really feel my heart beating through my shirt and it’s sometimes a bit painful on every other beat! This is after my heart rate has dropped back down to normal, resting rate.

Also, it sites dehydration and/or lack of proper nutrition as possible causes as well. I tend not to eat breakfast but usually have a good lunch & dinner. Just wondering if anyone else has had dizzy spells.

this happens to me ALL the time. The worst is when i get out of the water after a hard swim set and i sit on the diving block. I get so dizzy that i cant walk for at least 5 minuets and once i fell off the block into the pool because i was so dizzy. Also every morning when i jump out of bed i get all dizzy and my vision goes all black for about 30 sec. i have a feeling that is bad

This happens to me all the time, I pass out every once in a while, but it’s no big deal.

Holy crap dude you should see a doctor! The vision thing concerns me!

really? this has happened to me for as long as i have been swimming. I think it has to do with the fact that i have a really slow resting heart rate due to the fact that i am a year round distance swimmer. My heart rate right now is 51 bpm, but i have trouble getting it above 165 bpm.

thats pretty much what happens to me, except I see colors, i forget what its called, but…the doctor told me to eat protein ALOT, and other stuff.

i have a phyisical soon for swim season, ill ask the doctor then

Terry: I’d put my money on menopause. :stuck_out_tongue:

:stuck_out_tongue:  :astonished: Nah, no such thing! And I’m sure not lacking in Testosterone levels lol!

I hope it’s not too serious, maybe it’s because you’re not getting sleep or enough fibre or something like that. Maybe that’s causing the dizzyness and blackouts.

That happens to me. My vision goes all black and it’s not cool at all (it nearly always makes me fall to the floor for some reason and the last time it happened I hit my head on the counter top). But I asked my dad who’s a pediatrician, and he said it’s because “You’re standing up too fast. rambles on about sudden drop in blood pressure”. He went on to say to just stand up more slowly and everything will be dandy.

Scary thought but Terry maybe your age is catching up to you:p.

haha!

I get a dizzy/light-headed feeling quite alot, and i mean ALOT.
It is usually when i am stuck inside at work.
I like to think i am fairly healthy - ride 45km on my road bike quite often, uni LOTS, drink LOTS of water, eat VERY healthily, and walk alot.
After a swim i get this also, i think i would say its worse after a hard swim.
I didnt know more people got this as well.
I dunno if its something to worry about or not

i get that, try looking in the mirror when it happens your pupils go really small then big hehe either that or there is something seriously wrong with me lol,

I get it and so does Leo. Leo went to the doctors about it and he said it was just low blood pressure, which is a good thing, it means your not stressed. His advice was to not stand up so quickly!

I normally stand up and a few seconds later, I get really dizzy and my vision goes black or multi-coloured. Its weird but nothing to worry about.

Rock on!

I think i might agree with you there…
I used to be REAL stressed/depressed and cant remember feeling like it (the dizziness) - ever since goin on my night uni rides alot and uni’ing alot over the weekend i have been more chilled out but have had these feelings.
Although, just coz i dont remember it doesnt mean it didnt happen, i was quite f*cked up for a while there.

My btm is around 60 I think and I have gotten some of what you people have. I hate that clolr thing like flashing. I get like bloches of flashing colors a bit not shure what it is.

It could be vertigo. Its an inner ear problem that causes dizziness.
I was having major problems with dizziness, to the point where I would fall over, so i went to see a doctor and they said it was vertigo and that I should eventually go away.
I also get that thing where you stand up too fast, but I thought that was normal

I get this from time to time, and have had it since I was a kid. I heard it referred to as “postural hypertension” but I suspect it is hypotension.

I used to get it if I sat reading a book for a long time then stood up. It’s simply that the heart gets used to pumping just enough blood round to keep your system going when you are resting, then you stand up and there isn’t enough pressure to meet the extra demand.

If it is affecting your safety, it’s a problem. Otherwise, it’s normal. I suspect that the fitter you are, the more it would happen, because a fit person has a lower resting heart rate.
