@MadHatchetAndy, I see, you‘re not the umbrella collecting type…

I read on the internet that gutter canoeing can be fun, same is said about water jet packing in puddles.
@holyroller, are those wellies good for winter unicycling? After all they‘re supposed to keep the feet warm up (or rather down) to -20C. Don‘t you sweat heavily when it‘s warm, like in spring, summer an€ autumn?
Ha ha - I’ve ridden in walking boots but not much in wellies - it just feels (and probably looks) weird.
They don’t seem to get too warm - I wear them all year round if the ground is likely to be muddy - wellies with no or thin lining get far more hot and sweaty
Back on topic. Hypershell Mountain Exo Pro X Final review. PAU/E-legs.
Ok a week of testing, on road and off. “Cycling Mode” Pwr lvl Eco 1.
The adaptive AI is working, riding with the unit is getting smoother all the time. Off road, it really shines, uphill a breeze.
Any negatives, only 1 really. You do feel the unit “sea/saw” as your hips n pelvis drop with each pedal stroke, the frame of the unit, follows this movement. The hip harness, does not, this just follows the actions of your body. So thats what I mean by, “hip sway”, although the more I ride, the smoother it is becoming. So it takes a little getting used to, but improves, every time you ride. Today it was really smooth. The lowest pwr setting Eco lvl 1, is loads of assistance and plenty for me. The 26x4.8" hatchet Eco lvl 2, off set the extra weight, so felt like Eco lvl 1 on the 27.5 & 29er Hatchets.
Nothing more to add or say now. Its mega, if you want to see how it works, watch the MTB video at the start of this thread. I am just confirming, what this guys says in his review.
It works super well on a unicycle, it could have been spIecifically designed for it.
If you are thinking about getting one, you wont be dissapointed.
I havent felt any negetive effects from using it. Genrally I feel like I have done less work, less tired, less fatigued. Knees n hips feel the same, no noticeable effect, if anything, less stressed.
I have not used the unit, for every ride, just so I dont become reliant on it and keep the legs strength I have.
If you want, help and a boost for a few hours of mad fun, its Epic ![]()

@DrD nice one, thanks for sharing. There are a few different manufacturers appearing on my fb page, so at least 4 different brands, but very similar devices on the market Plus I have seen specific ones just for the knees, hips and legs
This looks identical to the hypershell, just a different colour and branding.
A fairly conclusive test against the top uphill rider vs someone thats not.
The video did not say what power level was selected, and there are 8 different levels, to me that looked like eco lvl 4 not hyper mode. I have tried that and the pwr is insane and way more than just noticeable, its in your face. On the lower settings I would agree Eco lvl 1 & 2 give you a nice boost, noticable. Eco lvl 3 and 4 you cannot help but notice the pwr. Hyper mode I have only experimented with, but a whole different ball game again. He probabley should have read the instructions ![]()
They work and work very well. The versatility is great. Uni, cycle, run, walk, race walk, uohill, downhill, gravel, snow, sand, mountain, dune, bootpacking, hill climbing, it can do the lot. Bonus I can ride any of my 6 unicycles.
These are designed for fit, active people that want to push themselves a bit further.
My riding is more confident and I certainly benifit from the extra pwr, uphill a breeze, off road its amazing, then it really shines.
The design could not work any better for uni riding and I can do everything I can without it, mounting, hopping, jumping.
The only thing I have not done yet is a bad UPD.
If you want, you can crank up torque and pwr in the app, beyond the current std settings for the motion engines. However, the higher the pwr, the shorter batter life is and the quicker the battery heats up.
Like a Tesler it has normal and ludeicrus pwr modes. Set it to silly and you might do a 1/4mile drag, race and have no battery left. Insanley fast, max pwr, and a taxi home ![]()
Plus I like the fact, I am still pedaling, I still have to work and ride the uni. Its not taking over, just giving assistance, and when I need it, its there instantly, quicker than I can think about it happening. Smooth, seamless, syncronised with your every move. Modern robotics, Adaptive AI, its right out of the future, only better, way better.
And thats from an old geezer with nothing to gain, from a flash review.
Its the best piece of tech, I have ever bought and its exceeded exspectatation on every level.
Update.
Hypershell have just launched the most powerful exoskeleton, Hypershell Mountain Exoskeleton X Ultra.
Total upgrade, intergrates with a smart watch, you dont need a phone. All weather harness, new next generation motion engine, you dont nee to change modes for different activities, lighter, more powerful 25%. You get 4 exra modes, better app with better features, longer battery life and range. Price expensive around £1680 uk maybe 2000 USD.
A number of other brands of Exoskeletons for legs or just knees.
Hypershell
Ascentiz
DNSYS
Kickstarter
CNG
That‘s cool! Congrats, and thanks for your effort regarding PAU. ![]()
As far as top muni riders are concerned, my first thought was @turtle, @UniGeezer and @Maxence. Not sure a top rider really needs or wants an exoskeleton, though.
@Maxence doesn’t need one, he is young
but we old farts could test it on the uphills for sure. I am not very in this topic, but willing to get in more…
@MadHatchetAndy I am honoured you ask me ![]()
The peeps with the bad knees could try it out. I myself am skeptical if it would spare my knees when riding the 36" UW which I now gave a rest for a while, though on November 16th I will go to a uni workshop and told them I would give a demonstration. Hopefully my knee will have healed enough by then.
@Unigeezer prolly doesn’t need it as he is as fit as a fiddle, but everybody likes to watch his youtube vidz.
We like to suffer, so no need for an exoskeleton ![]()
But I get the point that someone who has health issues may want such a tool to keep riding. Maybe I’ll need one when I’ll be 70ť ![]()
Some months ago I bought the exoskeleton, especially because of my wife’s health issues. Actually it’s for fun for the kids and me or for me in fitness mode to make walking harder. Just coincidentally I wore it on the 36" after showing it to my colleagues. It was a nice seemingless boost on the 50m ride back to my car. Further tests to come some time. An interesting question would be how it performs on a 36" UW. My UW still has the not rideable nightrider tire, I didn’t convert it to tubular yet. The nightrider would work when you never touch your legs.
I think that‘s an aspect that should is worth to dedicate some attention to - the exoskeleton as a means to train, instead of making unicycling easier. That way it could also be more interesting for the top riders (eh, @Maxence
).
you actually spent money on it? I don’t mind testing it out, but I’d see it as too much of a hassle.
Can you idle with it.
More power to overcome the big wheel inertia, right.
Sure, an exoskeleton boost is always welcome. But inertia… well on 36" instead of actually accelerating I just become faster over time. So the wheel is essentially only rolling and doing it’s thing. Even with my old and heavy 36" or the heavy 36" UW steel build, inertia strangely was not noticed as a problem. Instead it was a stable rolling experience no matter what comes.
Watch this video in the first post at 3 hours. @HardcoreCokerRider made the weight of his 36" extra heavy to make it easier for him to ride in a skate park:
That is a remarkable demonstration of inertia.
@Ulkicycling @Wheelou @DrD @Maxence Short video of the Hypershell in action. Still trying to get a camera setup that works, riding on my own. 3ft of selfy stick strapped to my bars, worked for a minute or 2. Enough so you can see it working and moving on a unicycle. Uphill, I was faster than downhill. More foot pressure means more force and torque. If I can rig it up better, so the camera cannot slip, will get some muni footage. Free mounting just knocks the camera way off shot.
Video seems to be private.
When you say you were faster uphill than downhill - did you use the brake when riding downhill? I‘m usually faster when I use the brake (allows me to pedal like usual instead of having to backpedal).
In the last week I used the exoskeleton on a ‘steeper’ uphill section in eco mode 4 too. My legs still had to push hard, but it was fun to feel the exoskeleton wobbling on the back and doing it’s work. The acceleration is (I would say by far) not as high as on a pedelec/e-bike, but hey, I can use it on every uni or ultimate wheel (UW) I want. Actually I think the exoskeleton is best used on a unicycle rather than any other discipline. When walking it really helps, but it pulls the legs upwards in a not really natural way. When riding it applies it’s power without interfering with normal unicycling movements. It feels like having light tailwind and that’s always welcome.
@Wheelou try now, I have changed the settings. Not a serious ride. Only testing out the camera on a selfy stick. To get the full image, the camera needs to be about 3ft away. So any swing movement iis exaggerated.. The hills not steep enough for the brake downhill and the selfy stick is strapped beside the brake lever. The camera and selfy stick are not heavy but it moves about alot.
@Ulkicycling at last another Hypershell unicyclicle rider
Yes I tested Eco lvl 4 last weekend on rough gravel, worked really well, powered along
Try “cycling mode”, in the app, tap motion engine, select personalise motion engine, accept experimental freatures, scroll down and increase Hill Descent control from 50-75%, scroll down again increase Slow Speed Stability Control from 50-75%.
Thats gives more braking and back pedal and better slow speed stability between you and the unit ![]()
my unicycle mode settings.
Finally someone else gets why it rocks, uphills a breeze, lots of power and torque.
It could have been designed for unicycling.
Something here if you are fit, young, old everyone, not just an old boy like me. Turbo charge your legs for a day, be superhuman unicycle you.
Welcome to the revolution/evolution of unicycling ![]()
