My brother did something and now everything is really, really, small. Not just on the internet but on the desktop icons as well. And where stuff should be blue, like a round the name of an icon is red. So we went into properties-appearance and tried to change it but when we hit apply nothing happens. Its not the mouse scrollwheel thing though I used that to make it big enough to read on here.
Is there another way to fix this? Oh yeah its Windows ME.
Did your brother load a Windows Theme? Themes can change all the colors and font sizes and the Windows look.
I’m not sure where the Theme manager is in Windows ME. Look in the Control Panel. There are also third party theme managers that can get installed in the Start menu.
If your brother installed a third party theme manager you should do a spyware scan. Third party Windows themes are a popular way to distribute spyware applications.
He also might have changed the reseloution of your screen and bumped it up higher than it used to be making things seem smaller. You can change this in the settings tab of the display properties.
If you read my first post I say that I did check there. My brother did nothing he said the comp froze (it does that a lot) and when he restarted it, it went that way.
I did the resolution thing that Chex said and it was good after that but the color’s were all messed (they were from the start of this fiasco) so I went from 256 to 32 and for some reason it works fine now.
If the colors got bumped down to 256 then things would look strange. Your desktop background would probably look funny. The colors that Windows uses for drawing user interface elements would likely change. It would look weird. But the color change doesn’t explain why the fonts were smaller unless the screen resolution also got changed.
Another thing that can happen is that the icons get messed up. Windows keeps a cache of all the icons that it displays. Sometimes that cache file gets corrupted or messed up. When that happens your icons will look weird. You’ll have the wrong icon showing for some things and other icons will be odd colors or messed up. A fix for that is to drop down to 256 colors and then back up to 32 bit color. That has the side-effect of forcing Windows to refresh and rebuild the icon cache file. Then all the icons are back the way they should be.
Ahh back to 640 by 480… really, the higher resolution just takes a little getting used to. I remember changing someone’s setting to a higher res, and they insisted that it was too small (on their 17" monitor, no less). I never got it. Though on my 3.7" pda, it does get to be bit small sometimes.
Find the little bottle with the “Drink me” label and take just one sip… or is it the cake with “Eat me” written in the frosting? I forget… Alice, which one is it? Oh, dear, I’m late I’m late I’m late!
