Well I was eyeing up the idea of going to the European uni convention in August seeing as I will be over in the across the pond at that time and given that I won’t be able to make it to the Nationals.
So I just wondered if someone here had gone to a Eurocycle convention before and whether they figured it was a lot of fun. It is only for three days and I am not sure if there is camping available. Can’t tell if there would be MUni rides or if team sports and freestyle predominate.
I’m not normally this judgemental (as everyone know’s) but you might get more bites on this question over in RSU. I suspect there are probably a few lurkers who might have some info who don’t use the Unicyclist.com forum and wont see this.
That being said, Sarah Miller has a write up of the 2000 Eurocycle at: http://www.eurocycle.org .
Also, if you can get ahold of it, the April 2001 On One Wheel has some photos and a shorter version of Sarah’s write up: http://www.unicycling.org/usa/oow/25-4/#eurocycle . (This URL is an even briefer version.)
I know if I were in Europe during Eurocycle, I’d make every attempt to get there. (No need to worry folks as sadly, I wont be.)
Oh, yes. Its worth going. Eurocycle is great fun. Any thing can, might and probadly has happened at a eurocycle that involved unicycles. Some things have happened that didn’t involve wheels at all.
Beer raceing, hockey, basketball, hockey, trials, hockey, muni, fun games, obstacle couse, tresure hunts, ice cream eating… the list is huge. Not every thing happens every year as its up to the hosts to set the agenda, but normally theres a pretty broad range of stuff. Last year I did a trampoine workshop & one on Rhon rad, took part in a tresure hunt, played hockey, entered a trials comp, ate pasta, visted McDonalds, did very badly in the slow race and had a great time. Even though I was in Germany, not speaking german and on my own.
This year there are plans afoot to get a mini bus sized group together to share transport and keep the cost down. You would be welcome to join us.
Accomadation at eurocycle is usually some form of camping ( either outdoor bring a tent or indoor in a gym or classrooms.)
Food is sometimes included in the price, sometimes you can buy at a cafe on site.
If your in Europe at the right time, come along.
SArah
You got it… the original idea of Eurocycle when starting in 1993 was to have a lot of fun on the unicycle and to meet other unicyclists.
Now, 10 years later again in Langenfeld, we want to find a good balance between competition and fun events.
Have a look on our website, if you have any questions, please use our forum.
Especially welcome are any ideas and wishes concerning the program, you will see a rough time table on the website, but it is not yet definitve.
Depending on the wishes of the visitors, we are also thinking about some races and unicycle cross.
