I didnt immagrate to Aus but it great ,every one is tolerent of your thoughts/beliefs/ideals and it is definetly on of the most livalbe countrys around
Aussies are as much helpful to a friend as they are to a stranger:)
not sure about sitys though ,depending on what your want to live in each city is different:)
I emigrated to California in 1994. It’s not a different country, but it has plenty different from Long Island and Michigan. And everything’s still right-side up!
I can’t wait to visit Australia. We have our sights on Unicon XV in 2010. I hope it’s a reality! Hopefully we’ll get to NZ as well on that trip.
Unicons (like pretty much any other unicycle convention) are put on where the organizers choose. I’m not sure the intended location of the possible 2010 Unicon (or if there even still is a plan), but if you want it someplace else you’ll have to get involved to help make it happen!
When I was 9yrs old my family had the choice of moving to NZ or Australia. I think we moved to NZ mainly because the emigration documents came through first.
Whilst things are not what they were like in 1987, I’m pretty happy with that choice now in terms of lifestyle. Wellington is one of the most compact cities I know, has plenty of cultural and arts events, and most importantly has so many mountainbike tracks within minutes of the city that I can’t dream of living anywhere else. And lot’s of hills…I can’t stand living anywhere flat
Having said that, Australia definitely has more opportunities in terms of work…with the current exchange rate and the Australian tax cuts in July…I can earn about 33% more in Oz than in NZ. I may head over there for a few months to work next year (it means I only need to work 8 months of the year and I can go Unicycling for three months). It’s also reasonable to live in NZ and commute to work in Australia- the airfares are so cheap.
If I had to pick where I would live in Australia…Melbourne would be my first choice- it’s the most livable city IMHO. Sydney is a wee bit too loud/congested for me…
I really like Brisbane but I’m not sure I’m not sure I can tolerate 35+ degrees every day in Summer. And ditto Perth…most of my relatives live there but it would be my last choice in Oz. Sun every single day of the year does get monotonous (for me)…not to mention the melanoma risk. Seriously…I actually cycled less in Perth because it was just too hot to go out in Summer. Adelaide…I can’t remember much because it’s been a long time since I was there. Hobart…nice place to visit, but seems a tad isolated.
Anyway, that’s just my opinion…it really depends on what sort of things you are looking for.
I’ve lived in sydney for 11 years, and Brisbane for 5, i have to say, BRISBANE is waaay way way way way way better. Sydney is just urghhhh… Brisbane is nice and there are trees and happy people and whats not. Sydney is all squished in and theres a lot of ethnic gangs which make life not so easy. (no offence to ethnic gangs and whatever).
