I’ve been searching for some slow electronic music, for when I go unicycling. For some reason thats the only kind of music that helps me focus when I unicycle. But I can’t find any good artist, and all the stuff I find is like dance music, which doesn’t work.
What kind of artist do you guys like in the electronic genre, the only one I’ve really found is postal service.
M83, at least older stuff. I haven’t really heard the new one–I’ve heard that it’s more pop oriented.
Kraftwerk is always good. Might be too “robotic” for your taste if don’t like stuff “like dance music.”
Maybe you should clarify what you mean by “slow electronic.” There’s dancey poppy stuff like The Pet Shop Boys that isn’t slow, but it’s also more than just “dance music” for a club, maybe.
you will find no greater music then Ratatat. by far my favorite guys and they have a good mix of slow and chill, and powerful stuff… dont know if they are exactly electronic but they sound electronic-e.
i just checked them out on myspace. i must say i kinda like em. i like the rock element they throw in there because rock and metal are mostly what i listen to. these guys are pretty good.
Squarepusher is nice if you like slower stuff. Aphex Twin has some really good slow sets on their 2disc Selected Ambient Works album. These guys have some great ambient stuff too:
Boards of Canada
Brian Eno
Bonobo
Carl Craig
Dj Krush
Dj Shadow
She Orbital
I usually just make my own mixes on the microkorg and roland sampler for rides. Making your own music for upcoming rides really sets the mood and keeps you in the zone. You could probably just setup a playlist to the same effect though.
I generally listen to glitchpop and electrocore though.
I second that. Daft punk are immense and not very distracting like alot of other dance music so it’s pretty good for unicycling. Iv’e got the album homework.
I like 1200 Micrograms when I’m out riding because it’s not too dark and it’s usually got enough weirdness to keep me interested, although it might be faster than you want.
Also check out: Infected Mushroom, Hallucinogen, Paul Oakenfold (his earlier stuff errs on the side of psy/goa; his later is a lot clubbier), Shpongle (lots of goa-style synth and world music influences). There are lots of goa/psy artists out there so you won’t lack for choices.
