Electric offroad unicycling

I feel that there are plenty spaces online for EUC riders to come together to discuss topics relevant to them. This forum should not be one of those places. What we have are two completely separate types of vehicles, two separate skill sets as well as separate build and maintenance issues.

Just my opinion.

If that is your stance then where would electric assist unicycles go? Or an electric assist unicycle that can be operated solely on electricity or pedal power?

Yeah, an occasional thread for “euc-curious” unicyclists, particularly to compare and contrast with conventional unicycles, seems fairly harmless and on-topic IMO. same as occasionally talking about penny farthings, ultimate wheels, or other unicycle-adjacent contraptions

Penny farthings? Now you have my attention.

Totally agree!

All I’m saying is they are two completely different types of vehicles. They neither resemble a traditional unicycle or require the same skills, some styles are actually closer to a skate board. I’m not suggesting that you shouldn’t ride or be interested in both, and I certainly don’t have anything against euc riders. It’s just the question keeps coming up on this forum wether a euc and a conventional unicycle should be classified the same, my vote is no. I also would hate to see this forum become a hybrid forum for both.

A penny farthing is a very close relative to the unicycle in some cases sharing components and dealers.

Just to add, there’s a dedicated Electric Unicycle Forum for those interested.

I’ve yet to peek through any posts myself… I wonder if there’s any posts discussing our regular manual unicycles  (EDIT: For sure!)

Honestly I’m not too concerned where discussions about euc’s take place, I’m sure there are forums out there.

I see that one of them has got the police’s and media’s attention near me - BBC News: Penny farthing theft prompts police appeal. Sadly newsworthy because it was stolen, but I guess for me the PF is a near enough cousin in the ‘quirky human powered transport’ world that I followed the link and felt a connection, as I would have done for a unicycle, but I think not for an EUC (maybe because it’s more ‘mainstream’/‘cool’ than ‘eccentric’, so it seems my response has nothing to do with the science / difficulty of riding).

Penny farthings are cool!

…and eccentric, at least nowadays.

Glad you’re in the uk

Here in PA we do call mountain bikes either “electric”’or “acoustic”. I ride both and they are both a lot of fun. Same with unicycles, I ride both and they are both a lot of fun.
