DVDS

whats with the companies putting out a movie on dvd for like $25 and then
3-5 months later putting out the ‘special edition’ with bonus footage and
a lot more features on it and charging $30 more for it?

i just saw they re-released the mummy on dvd, even though they had the
seperate standard and wide screen dvds and now theyve got the special
ed with 6 hours bonus footage… and they have a new directors cut of
the rock…

too many movies like this.

Beats me, I am a netflix.com member

Yep… this has been a big complaint in the DVD addicts community, and
there are some of us trying to stage a program where you can trade in your
first version for a substantial discount on the new version. Probably
won’t happen, though. They did this with Rushmore, The Mummy, Seven, and
several others, and they will be doing it soon with both X-Men and Almost
Famous. Generally you should keep an eye out before buying as they are
starting to announce this ahead of time.

Same here – been a member for as long as they’ve had the program, but I
still like to buy the movies I really like.

so i can trade in my copy of the mummy and get the new one for a good
discount? where do they usually put the info about this kind of thing?

i still think its dumb they release it and then put another one out in a
few months even with a discount… they cost enough already.

i was thinking about doing that… the thing about them is i want to watch
a moive now, not later… but other than that it sounds like a good
program. how long does it usually take for moives to arrive?

No, you can’t. There’s a push to get this sort of program started, because
DVD collecters are tired of this multi-release crap.

A couple of days. The thing is, you build up a big list ahead of time so
it can send them off automatically. Pretty cool… I usually have about 20
or so movies on my que list (including a lot of old ones – all of
Hitchcock’s movies have been remastered, etc.)

An other issue is: the ultimat editon is region 1 coded. Not available
in Germany.

It’s real idiotic to bring 2 years after the cinema release a region
coded DVD.

I decide here:

I will never buy region coded DVD.

Region code free?

Well, all DVD’s are region coded so I guess you’ll never buy a DVD in
your life.

Yes, the producer can decide which region code or region code free.

I am just talking with a film producer about his idiotic decision to
release a 6 year old film about an Austrian doctor from the 18th century
only in region code 1 instead of region code free

No. Just buy a region one player. I’ll be happy to pick one up at best buy
and sent it along with a PAL converter.

I think these companies and movie making people are trying to show
that whose boss in making movies and are putting out all sort of
movies and footage.

They want to earn money in anyway and live a life with our money. That’s
ridiculous. They should be shot dead.

How does that make the DVD itself not region coded?

Shot dead? That is a little drastic isn’t it? Do you propose shooting
