Duct tape shoes...

The idea originally came from smcmorrow, but I tried making a pair of duct tape shoes, completely from scratch. Needless to say, I made it through one, and it didnt turn out well…so, for the next attempt, any suggestions? (eg, how to fix problematic things like duct tape not being very stretchy, so the shoe was hard to get on)

use cardboard for the sole, it’ll work well, (lots of it). also, if it’s hard to get into, just make it with gromets and laces!

gromets cost money and are tricky to put in, that and i was too lazy, so i just didnt put in laces

Are you kidding? Barefoot is the way to go!

no way! duct tape can fix anything/everything, so you might as well use it for shoes, cause when you have to fix them, your just adding duct tape to duct tape, making it stronger

Well if you go barefoot then you don’t ever have to fix anything, therefore it is cheaper.

that’s true.

and if you ever come upon a slackline, you are ready to go!

until you step on a nail or something (not that duct tape would do much to stop a nail) and you have to get your foot fixed

Except that if you are walking teh correct way and you come to step on a nail you will notice it and lift your foot off the nail before any penetration is done.

ok, ill give you that…but i have to ask- i checked out that barefoot website—what do you in the winter, you must get really cold

how about wrapping & taping wax paper around each of another pair of shoes, and then wrapping/taping duct tape around/onto that. this would give you a pretty good template/mold to use while making the DTshoes, and the wax paper would make it easier to remove from the shoes.

Then I guess you could trace the bottom of your shoe onto a piece of foam or cardboard, and then duct tape that to the bottom of your DTshoes as a sole.

I want to make a pair of slippers now.
It wouldn’t be too hard to make an actual tongue for your DTshoes - one that would prevent your bare feet from being hurt by the laces that you could add.

UMM, it doesn’t get that cold, the bottom of your feet get warm as they need to, and as long as snow doesn’t get on the top of your feet you should be fine.
Or you could just move somewhere warm.

ya, but the problem with that is i live in maine, and dont really feel like moving…plus, i like to ski, which would be hard with no shoes, but the concept makes sense, maybe ill get into that next spring

thats a really good idea, and im going to try it as soon as i find more duct tape…the only problem would be that the inside of the shoe would then be the sticky side of the tape(unless i missinterpreted your idea)

try these

i own a pair and they are not stretchy. there’s a method of putting them on and they’re really simple pattern.

Duct tape - the possibilities

hee hee

Duct tape is like the force: it has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the universe together.

for your laces problem, don’t worry about grommets, just reinforce with an extra layer or two of DT and use a hole punch for lace holes. If this tears out, put on more tape and redo the holes. Easy as riding a bike.

You coppying git! I am wearing a t-shirt that says “duct tape is like the force, it has a light side and a dark side and it holds the universe together” right now!

$7.99 at wal mart by the way.

sounded a little sus from this end

why not make the shoes around the foot
