Drying out a CamelBak Resevoir?

Dishwasher - also handy for cleaning really dirty computer keyboards!

I bought the Camelback resevoir dryer and it works pretty well. You still have to turn it upside down and shake out the puddles after a couple of hours.

I think it was around $10.

It is similar to this one:

I put a (clean) golfball in my platypus and li put it on the counter over night.

Please explain!

Rock on!

That’s a heck of a lie.

Don’t know what was unclear about that, but that’s probably just me.

Anyway, often the dishwasher is started before we go to bed, so the counter (is that even the right word for it?) is warm later on, and i put a golfball in the opening zip of the bag to keep it open, and then the heat from the dishwasher evaporates the water in the bag.

Hope that helps.

It probably would still work; you’d just need to make sure it was really dry before you plug it in.

I bought the Camelbak dryer. For those who haven’t seen one it’s a plastic thingy that you stuff inside the Camelbak that holds it open so that any residual water can evaporate. It has a hanger hook on the end so you can hang it on a clothesline or tree branch or whatever. I usually set it outside in the direct sunlight and it’s dry in an hour or two. Works OK for the bladder itself but there always seems to be residual moisture in the hose and I have had the hose start growing black gunk after a while. Especially if I don’t use the thing for a couple of months. Eventually though, I always end up with a black, fungusy, moldy, icky hose.

I used a few ideas…My mom said i couldnt leave it in the freezer forever so i made one of the coathanger dryers posted by One on one. Then i p9nched the bite valve with a clothespin to let the moisture out of that…Its bone dry and doesnt smell or tase funny…Thanks guys!

If you have the standard bite valve, you can just pull it off until the hose dries. It goes back on very easily.

I dont like messin with stuff like that…My method is working great. But thanks anyways:)

Just go cheap like me and take a regular drinking straw , cut it in half, and place it in the middle of the bladder holding it open to dry. :sunglasses: hung it upside down with cap open, straw in and bite taken off so tube can drip dry. seems to work well for the drying process.

Sorry to bring this up again but just didn’t think my question warranted a new thread

I have swished out my bladder with some baking soda and then a teaspoon of lemon juice (per the mfg directions on back of bladder) and now have it hung to dry.

My question was, tomorrow, can I throw it back in the bag and just leave it with the cap off? I’m not sure my mom’s too crazy about me throwing it in the freezer or fridge.

This won’t be long term, prolly just a few days or a week at the most as I’m riding quite a bit now…

Thanks.

Once it’s dry you can do whatever you want with it. Inside the protective bag seems like the best option. And yes, I’d leave the cap off- unless you store it somewhere particularly dusty or dirty…
