Lodging Update:
So we’re getting a nice group together, at least one family already has a cabin, so … it looks like we’ll have a mix of cabin and camping. I’d hate for everyone to be so spread out that we can’t easilly “commune” in the evening.
If the campers stay near the cabins, then we can pick a central location to have a campfire, probably at the campground, so the kids can roast marshmellows and the big kids can drink adult beverages
The cabins are located along the access road on the North side (far side) of the lake, close to where we camped last year at the Beaver Dam Equestrian Campground. We can’t stay at the Equestrian Campground as it is reserved for horse campers unless the campground is full or we wait to make reservation until 30 days before the reservation dats(s).
The Lakeside Campground is close to the cabins, adjacent to the Heron Run Trail (the trail we rode on Sat morning that goes along the lake) and near the swimming area. There are a lot of camp spaces at Lakeside, but this is primitive camping, so no utility hook ups, but there is a bathhouse and standpipe water spigots. Hookups are available at White Oak and Whispering Pines.
I just spoke with Tammy, a Douthat Park Ranger, and she gave me the numbering sequence for the cabins:
http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state_parks/documents/facdouthat.pdf
Looking at the map, going North (right), away from the Conference Center, Beach, Bathhouse, the first road to the right are Cabins #1-9. The second road to the right are cabins 10-11. The third road to the right are cabins #22-25 (immediate left) and 13-16 (immediate right), further up that same road are the remainder of the cabins.
So for those who are thinking cabins:
Site type:
•One-room log efficiency (cabins 3, 6, 10, 20 and 22): sleeps two, one double bed. No bed rental.
•One-bedroom log:
◦cabins 4, 5, 11, 17 & 19: one-bedroom log cabin, sleeps 3, allows 4; 3 single beds (third bed located in extra space in cabin). 1 bed rental allowed
◦cabin 2: one-bedroom log cabin, sleeps 2, allows 2 people only; 1 double bed. No bed rental
◦cabins 9, 13, 16, 18, 21, 24 & 25: one-bedroom log cabin, sleeps 2, allows 4; 2 single beds. Two bed rentals allowed.
•Two-bedroom log:
cabins 1, 7, 8, 12, 14, 15 & 23: two-bedroom log cabin, sleeps 4, allows 6, 1 double bed and 2 single beds. Two bed rentals allowed.
•Two-bedroom cinderblock with cedar sided frame: cabins 26-30, sleeps 5, allows 6, 1 double bed, 1 set of bunk-beds, 1 single bed. One bed rental allowed.
•Two-bedroom frame: Cabin 33, sleeps six. One queen, and two sets of bunk beds in a second bedroom. No extra bed rentals.
•Three-bedroom frame: Cabin 35, sleeps eight. One queen, two single beds in a second bedroom and two sets of bunk beds in the third bedroom (sleeps four).
As of February 3rd at 2pm, the following cabins are available:
#1-6, 9-11, 13, 16, 20-22, 24-32, 34
The only remaining two bedroom that is close to the campground is #1
The only remaining one bedroom and efficiency cabins that near the campground are #2-6, 8
There are plenty of campground spots available.

As reservations are made, can folks post where they are staying?
I have reserved a two bedroom cabin, #7.
Tammy the ranger said that all trails have been cleared and that the adjacent National Forest trails are also in good shape!
I plan to get up there early and take an easy ride Friday afternoon.
This is a family friendly event and Dothat is a very family friendly park, so bring the kids and significant other, there is plenty to do, the more the marrier!
Looking forward to seeing and riding with everyone
