Doesn’t the guy have a point? Surely a two-wheeled unicycle is a bicycle?: Bi =
two, Cycle = wheel. how does that work, anyway? one wheel above the other,
driving the one underneath like a cog?

Forgive my ignorance.

As fas a I know I am the first to build and ride a two-wheeler 20 years ago,
thoug I took the idea from an old issue of OOW. From a an historical point of
view, it would be interesting to know if someone has information on two-wheelers
before mine and who rode them.

FYI, in Japan there are two-, three-, four-, five-, six-, seven-, eight-, and
thirteen-wheelers. Yes, thet are all legitimate UNIcycles. You could see a
picture of me riding a thirtten wheeler by going to my (newly revamped homepage
at http://www.kanji.org/jack/ and clicking “One wheel joys” and then “weirdest
unicycle” (I have my reasons for not giving the full url).

John Foss, you probably have electronic pictures of multiwheelers? I’d love to
have some.

How about “This mountain bike didn’t come with assembly instructions = and I
think I messed up!”

Jack saw a picture of a multi-wheeler, but I believe it was one with an odd
number of wheels, and also that it had an internal chain so it didn’t rely on
wheel friction to work. I have not seen any other account of two-wheelers before
Jack built and rode his in 1979.

Some are already on my web site. What others would you like?

At the 1982 USA National Unicycle Meet (NUM), Ken Woods told me that he had seen
a two wheeler ridden by one of the greatest unicyclists of all time. Can you
guess who it was? I didn’t ask what year it was … it may have been in the 30s
or 40s. This stunt may not have been used in any performance back then. However,
I’m not aware of any published or written account or pictures of it.

Ken Woods wrote a few accounts of the professional unicyclists of the 30s and
40s for On One Wheel several years ago. I wish we had more of the same in On One
Wheel now. Where has the history of unicycling gone?

Sincerely,

Ken Fuchs <kfuchs@winternet.com

Let me guess. It starts with an “M”… M may still be alive, for all I know. My
friend Ton Laszlo, on the cc, said he met him once. Tony? IT would be a great
idea to get all the history we from him while we can.

I wish I knew what happened after Craig’s mother resigned as unicycling
historian. It is very important that her collection of materials be made
available. Craig, I wonder what oyu think.

His name is Mell Hall, and he is considered to be one of the greatest
unicyclists of all time. It is too bad he is not in contact aith IUF, USA etc.
Al Hemminger says he is alive and well in Texas… He must be in his
nineties…?

Yep, that’s him. Thanks for the input/

Does anyone know how to contact him?
