I saw Donnie Darko last year, and now I’ve started watching it like twice a day. thoughts? harper may have something interesting to say, I hope hes seen it.
lots of opinions in this thread
allright, any thoughts on peoples interpritations of Donnie Darko? Im pretty sure I have it nailed, but Ill wait to see if there’s discussion before I waste my time typing.
Thanks for the previous thread, jag, I didnt even think to use the search on this topic. donnie darko, as a film, was never discussed specificly though, just people liking or disliking it. so ill assume that thats ok for a new thread?
allright, allright, I get the picture. Ill restrict my discussion to the IMDb boards.
what? by all means discuss this great movie here! im just adding to your thread, not saying “go away”
i cant belive Wonka,Potter and Item havent hit this up yet…?
whats an IMDb board?
This is more of a conversation between two people at this paoint than a thread. Anyways, yeah, IMDb is the Internet Movie Database. www.IMDb.com they have fourms on there for all the movies, but that gets old after a while, as everyone asks the same questions, and everyone gives the same answers.
www.donniedarko.com is really a great flash site. Make sure you watch the movie 2 or 3 times before playing around with it though. once you start, you can never go back.
I cant believe that I havent hit this up yet! Donnie Darko is by far my favorite movie and I’ve seen it countless times. I was the one who started that other thread and I’m so excited to see this thread pop up! there is so much to talk about I dont really know where to start. I think it’d be better to ask questions then we can all give our ideas of answers.

I’m still a Donnie Darko virgin. But I will watch it within the next 3 days and post my opinion/thoughts/review.
I heard my name…
Unfortunately, I’ve never seen Donnie Darko. That webpage scared me. I guess I’ll have to explore it. But first, I have to go eat dinner.
Watch the movie before you go to the website!!! the website will wreck movie stuff and this is a movie that you dont want to be wrecked for you.

Oh…
Too late.
I remeber wanting to watch that movie a couple of years ago but never got around to it… I’ll try renting it this weekend.
Is it the movie with the Freacky rabbit?
got to see that one!
I still have nightmares about that rabbit, even though his total screen time is probably less than 2 minutes…
the rabbits name is frank. I think this thread, if carried on any further, will contain spoilers. unless people would rather it not, which would kind of kill the thread.
is there any way to change the title to say that there are spoilers? I would really like to talk about the movie’s details.

I definately think we should start a new thread to discuss this movie. I’ve seen it 3 times now, and I’m definately hooked.

Weird movie…saw it twice already. need to read the book.
I finally rented Donnie Darko.
I thought it was okay. If you haven’t seen it and plan to, perhaps you should not read any further.
The performances were good. Jake Gyllenhaal was excellent. Jena Malone, who I liked very much in Bastard Out of Carolina and Contact (a small role) was also very good. Someone said that Drew Barrymore wasn’t very good, and I’d have to agree with that. She was wooden and looked like she had football padding on at times. Mary McDonnell was good as always (see her in Passion Fish)
I enjoyed the Darko family dynamic. I thought it was realistic and well done. The scene of them having dinner and the back and forth between the two older siblings and the parents reactions were amusing and true. Of course, the kicker is the youngest daughter’s final question, “What’s a fckass?”
Patrick Swayze was terrific as the huckster self help guru.
What I thought was weak in this movie was the character development of secondary, yet key, characters. There’s constant conflict with a certain asshole guys at school, but the final confrontation really comes out of the blue.
I also thought that while he is told that the end is coming in 28 days, etc and there are screen shots stating the remaining time, the story failed to create any sense of urgency about the whole thing.
And lastly the interplay between Donnie’s psychological screwedupness and the science fiction theme just didn’t come together for me.
All this is said having watched it only once. I realize it is a dense film.
wow, it has been almost a full year since this thread was last seen.
JJuggle, i didnt like it that much the first time i saw it, but each subsequent time i have liked it much more. if you get a chance, watch it again, and see how your opinion of it changes. i agree with what you said, and parts are enormously corny, but its still a great flick.
