That’s sad.
Cathy
hurray! another person free from bondage.
happy bidding
That’s one fewer of us and one more of them. This makes me very sad. Actually, Steve is, and always will be, a unicyclist, even if he doesn’t ever ride again. He even wrote a song about unicycling.
wow, i was just gonna brake my uni bank to get a nano today, then i see this, i have been looking for a muni, why is the price only at 160?
how good is this muni, and how high do you think it will get?

That’s one less of us and one more of them.
Kinda.
Hi Everyone!
Sorry I fell out of touch.
Yes, I am selling one of my unicycles–my 26er. I still have my souped-up Sun 29er at my brothers house (that’s the one I had the accident on, not the 26er) so if I ever do return to the uni-world, I still have one.
So, about that 26er for anyone who might be interested.
I originally bought it from unicycle.com in May of 2004. It was the Nimbus 26inch Muni.
But–it has a Yuni frame. Not a Nimbus frame. They are very similar, except the Yuni frame has the welded steel tops on the frame tubes, unlike the Nimbus frame, which has 2 plastic caps. I dont know if this makes any difference, but the guy in the bike shop told me that he thought the Yuni frame was much better. Why did I replace the frame? Because I ordered the Nimbus through my local bike shop and when it arrived, and when I went to pick it up, there was a problem–the seat post was completely jammed into the frame. The guys in the bike shop tried to adjust the post for me, and as a result, they broke the Nimbus frame. So, because Unicycle .com cares about their customers, they sent the bike shop a replacement frame, and this just happened to me a Yuni, so when I went back to the bike shop to pick up my unicycle, there it was, with a nice new shiny Yuni frame.
I basically re-learned how to ride on it (I used to ride when I was 12 or something like that). I had an absolute blast on it.
I then made a few changes:
I got tired of the giant mountain tire (I was mostly riding in the city) so I began to experiment with different tires. I tried out this Big Apple tire, which a lot of people seem to love–I did not use it much because I prefer a more square profile tire (I used a Bontranger Cruizer, which I am saving for another project) but because this Big Apple has hardly been used, and because I know that they are popular, I thought it would be good to sell it as the main tire of this unicycle.
The crank arms are from my Sun 29er–just steel, 150 (6 inch) generic crank arms. The pedals are also good, practically new plastic generic ones.
The odyssey seat post clamp is totally new–never been used!
I decided to add the original Duro mountain tire and the 165 mm crank arms and extra pedals to sweeten the deal. The Duro has been used a lot, but it has plenty of life left in it. The crank arms are the ones that came with the Nimbus–they are long, but great for off-road. I figured that I might as well sell these extras as part of the package because otherwise, I don’t think they would ever get any use. And whoever buys this unicycle will have more than the standard set of options.
Not long before I stopped riding I got a new seat. A generic “Kris Holm Style” seat – it has a few scuff marks on the bumpers, but besides that it’s practically new.
The only issue with this unicycle is that I think the wheel should be trued. It is not noticable with the Big Apple, but when you put the DURO on it, the side edge of the tire hits the interior of the frame. I had a similar problem with my Sun29er when I put a huge knobby on it–I took it to the Bike Shop and they trued the tire and it was fine. When I used to ride with the Duro tire on, I placed little strips of plastic into the bearing holders, and that worked too. This may not turn out to be an issue for who ever buys this unicycle, but I’m just identifying any potential problems so there wont be any misunderstandings.
I began the bidding at 110, and last time I looked, it went up to 160., and the reserve has been met. I think it’s a pretty good deal, especially when you compare it to new unicycles with the same features. I just want to sell it to someone who will ride it and enjoy it, because for months its been sitting in the bike cage of my building, and this unicycle deserves to be out on the road.
Oh, and the reason I don’t ride any more? I was in a horrible accident with my Sun29er. I fell while freemounting and I completely destroyed my elbow. My whole right arm was temporairly paralyzed, and I had to go though a couple of major operations. I was a complete mess for months, and it put a huge strain on my family. I never want to go through that again–and I would not have if I had worn elbow pads. So as much as I love the unicycle, and I love the whole unicycle scene, and I think unicyclists are the grooviest people, I don’t honestly think I’ll ever get back on one. Not after what happened to me.
So what is sad is not the fact that I no longer ride–what is sad, is the fact that this fine Yuni-Nimbus-Uni-Muni is not owned by an active unicyclist!
Besides all that–I miss you all! I hope you “active unicyclers” don’t mind this here “un-active unicycler” popping in from time to time.
Cheers!
Steve/Dogbowl
Thanks Dave!
In my one-wheeled heart, I will always be a unicyclist.
Dogbowl, nice to hear from you again. I hope you are healing well.
Cathy
Glad you’re comfortable with your decision. I hope your elbow recovers completely. Sounds just awful.
Feel free to stop by the fora, of course, we’ll always be happy to hear from you!
Blake
And we miss you. Please keep posting here. It’s not the same without you.
The Unithon is on Saturday. I’m going to have to do it without you this year. Bummer.
Tell Sophie and Julien I said hi. You should all come to a unicycle club meeting and visit us. If you do, let me know ahead of time! Does Sophie still ride?
Take care and stay in touch.
P.S. - I was thinking about you last week because I rode the same ten mile loop that we rode together in Uniworld last year.
Damn! I always thought of you (Dogbowl) as a kindred spirit and I was horrified to hear of your accident.
Get better, and I hope you find some other activity you love as much.
Peace, brother.
True dat. As long as a person knows how to ride they are a unicyclist. You can’t become one of them just because a person is no longer actively riding. It takes more than that to become an un-unicyclist.
Dave Lowell lives in his own Uniworld…
It would really be great if you would pop in once in a while.
This forum will definately miss posters like yourself.
i just listened to that song. It was great, but i cant believe that the person who wrote that song is stopping unicycling:( . it was such a happy song.
