Does a handle help a lot?

I do my MUni rides with a Semcycle Deluxe seat (waiting for the Velo).
It has no handle at all, so when I need to pull up the only thing I
can do is grab the soft rubber of the seat itself. Of course I cannot
pull hard this way.

Would a proper handle, so the opportunity to pull harder, bring a
major improvement in my MUni capabilities, especially uphill (in which
I think I need it most)?

Yes, it would. Holding on to your seat allows you to push the pedals harder without lifting your bottom off of the seat. When you are able to push the pedals really hard, you can have big “power strokes” without worrying about falling off. Also, pulling on your handle makes you “feel more stable.”

I don’t know if I am ready for a handle yet. I think it’s something you grow into as your balance improves. I find it very hard to ride without using both arms for balance.

Re: Does a handle help a lot?

YES! There are many options on the handle, but using no handle isn’t a very
good one for MUni.

I think having a handle is a much needed tool for unicyclers of all levels because when i started out i used it to balance and to help mount and now that i do muni (mainly in snow) i use it most always. you should get a strong one though because i used to use miyata handles but they wore down and became loose in 1 or two months. so yes handles are a necesity and buy a strong one so you dont have to replace them.

Re: Does a handle help a lot?

It has helped me enormously.

Re: Does a handle help a lot?

Thanks all.

I’m still not planning to buy a separate handle but at least I have
ANOTHER reason to look forward to the Velo seat with integrated grip.
Or would that be inferior to a handle proper (for MUni)?

I posted another single copy of this message because the first one
fell through the cracks.
