Here in the USA, the Bush administration broke the law repeatedly. It turns out, what they did could have been done more effectively and as easily within the law, with far less damage to American’s Faith in their government. I didn’t make up this phrase, you can look it up, others often talk about Faith in the government.
Those who take an atheist perspective toward the government are those with no Faith. Many of Bush’s supporters held a Fundamentalist, rigidly unshakable Faith.
For unicyclists around the world, do you have Faith in your government?
Governments are illegitimate. Their primary action is the use of force over you and your property. Even if a stated objective is something that is viewed as being good, it is only done through the use of theft and coercion, and further it usually produces the opposite effect.
Nobody should have any faith for an organization that essentially enslaves people and causes so much harm.
I have complete faith in my government to protect its own interests and in the process keep our society, institutions, and way of life more or less on track. I do not kid my self that my government has my interests primarily in mind. Neither do I mistakenly believe that civilization and functioning institutions would be possible without government.
Some governments are better than others, mine is not too bad.
I do not consider government to be illegitimate and I do not consider myself or my fellow citizens to be slaves in any meaningful way. I do acknowledge that the way a country and its government are organized does affect personal choice, sometimes in significant ways.
I do think it would be nice if there were a place on earth put aside for those who wished to live in a place where the only law was self preservation. Perhaps when the Trilateral Commission and the other secret societies devoted to a one world corporate controlled government finally succeed in their plans, they will put such a place aside.
It is true that the question, “do you have faith in your government?”, is fairly unspecific. However, phrasing it in the way you have is setting up completely unreasonable expectations and pretty much defining government as a failure. As such you have created a false argument.
But, while we’re on the topic, I have always loved this item from The Onion:
I would have more faith in the government if they forfilled some of their promises. The day I can have a medical problem and will not have to fight for HOURS with the insurance company to get paid what they are supposed to have paid, maybe I will START to have some faith… If I were 90, I would be dead now from all this crap I have to deal with just from a broken arm.
The only thing I have faith in or believe is that the politicians in the US are so “out of touch” with an average person in our country that no matter if their intentions might actually be good, they still aren’t going to be what works for the best.
I have faith in my government to bankrupt my country.
Why should I work when my government is going to feed me and house me and clothe me and give me free medical care?
Why should anyone work when their government is going to feed them and house them and clothe them and give them free medical care?
Every elected official promises to take care of me/us and to spend money on my/our behalf even when the government does not have any money. Politicians are doing what is best for them not what is best for the people they represent.
I work. Why? Cause the government isnt going to buy my studio equipment, new guitars, amps, computers, or unicycles.
Health care isnt bad here. from 0-18 I had medical coupons. Would use it once and then youd have to send in some paperwork and get a new one. But that allowed for all my dentist appointments and work they did, x-rays, emergency room visits, all for a cheap price. The coupons didnt cost us anything, and from my understanding, they are widely available for anyone in the age range.
At 19 I lost that. But since then I dont go to bigger hospitals. I go to local clinics (CHAS clinic). Same work, quality and drugs as a main hospital, but its cheaper. So now im back to paying the same cheap price like when I had my medical insurance coupon, which is very nice.
Now I can be back to hurting myself all the time and not having to worry about my x-rays bill because it will only be $15.
You work because you feel personally compelled to do so. Just like the vast majority of people. Yes, there are some who use the system to their advantage, cheat it, and get away with not “contributing to society”.
But they are vastly outnumbered by the people who want to be part of a community, contribute, and work for a living.
That your government tries to care for those who are unable to do so, flawed as the process may be, should be a source of pride not disgust.
I kind of think that America would self-destruct if there was not a government or if certain laws(like the the legal drinking age) were repealed.
It would be interesting to witness such a sequence of events as the suicide of a nation. Maybe we are.
