do you believe in god?

i’m taking the easy 10
Zimmerman is Robert Zimmerman, known to the world and a couple of close friends as songsmith and concept-crafter Bob Dylan
oh, he sings a bit also

the ‘which way the wind blows’ quote is right in my head, but i can’t pin it down
i know i’m going to kick myself

the faction must be the Weathermen, but i know preciously little about them

i’ll pass on the organisation and the skinner bit

what’s happening with lisl auman?
(that google seems to indicate good news?)

I find human imagination amazing in that if we have an unanswered question we can start to formulate an answer using or imagination. Unfortunately often this imagined answer has been taken as an end where no empirical data is required just an answer that will satisfy the need for an answer.

This is how it has been for at least many thousands of years with gods/religions filling the void of human knowledge and humans saying that they believe this or that is the answer. As over thousands of years this void has inevitably decreased, and continues to, gods/religions can no longer be used as the answers to many questions, as they once used to be. Over the last few hundred years there has developed a sort of overlap where humans have trouble accepting what they believe may actually be wrong.

For many humans though gods/religion has filled and continues to fill this void and that makes them feel better, which is fine when on a personal level but in the grander scheme of organisations etc. it can and is dangerous.

I have no need to fill the void of human knowledge with a gods/religion answer and I accept that in my life time many many questions will go unanswered and I doubt the human race will ever be content with not having questions to ask for however long the human race exists.

As I have no belief system I can give a definitive answer to the question of this thread; NO I DON’T.

Dave,

I’ll give you 15 points, because that 2nd item is a 2-part with partial credit allowed.

Good job!

You’re on the way.

Re: Quiz

Alright, I’ll bite. The quote is from the Dylan song, “Subterranean Homesick Blues” from the Bringin’ it All Back Home Album. The organization that took its name from the song is The Weatherman and, now I’m just guessing, they split off from SDS (Students for a Democratic Society).

Re: Re: Quiz

aha!
my memory didn’t work 'cause the vandals took the handle

I’m imagining…

I’ll take this as a hypothesis? Then maybe one day we’ll intend to attend the same unicycle convention and then I’ll take it to be a theory. And if we do actually attend the same convention then there is a distinct possibility that GILD (who is still only a theory to me) may buy me (who is still only a theory to GILD) a nice cool beer and my original imagination will become fact

Of course this is still only in my imagination…sigh

i wonder if all scientists look forward to testing their theories as much as i am?
:sunglasses:

None taken. I played that up for fun.

That was a good laugh.

To atract boy whales? Birthing? I dont know. I googled it but didnt find any pictures of it. Why do men have nipples? I’d like to see a half fish half lizard.

I think that men have nipples because they begin forming before the gender of the fetus is determined.

Re: Re: Quiz

20 points, Rafael!!!

No one is going to tackle the BF Skinner line?? Maybe you could google it and give us a synopsis…

Of course, since Rafael is my “alter” [we have Multiple Personality Disorder], he’s excluded.

Billy

i believe in God. He is my greatest love. Nothing exists except from the Father through Jesus Christ. He makes life worth living. As to the question of how our(christians’) God is 3-in-1, it is a mystery. We can only begin to understand it, but it is. There is a lot of things we do know about it, such as that the Father gave us the Son, who in turn gave us the Holy Spirit. For more on it as far as Catholics have been able to figure it out in this past 2000 years, get Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Now in regards to what evidence is there that God does exist; there is more than to support evolution. For one I am. Another is that other things exist. Another is that so many unexplainable things have and will happen. There are rules as to what happens according to physics, its not completely random. Evolution wasn’t completely random, it looks like something/someone’s hand was in it, that being God. So many visions of the Lord have occured, prophesy that is very clear has been given and proved true.

Now there is a new topic I want to discuss. It is premillennial dispensationalism, or in other words the whole “rapture” idea. It came about in the 1830s from a German. It isn’t backed up by the bible. It is neo-gnostic mythology. It basically demeens the meaning of suffering. The tribulation will happen to all of us, o and by the way the “rapture” is already atleast 17 years late. One of the main people that spread it kept saying it would happen the next year. In '87 he published 88 reasons the rapture would happen in '88. In '88 he publised 89 reasons the rapture would happen in '89 and he kept it up for a number of years. It is not what will happen. I am not saying I know what will happen, or how the heavens and the earth will be made new, cause I don’t but that is not it. The reason I say it is neo-gnostic is because it uses the whole idealology of putting things against each other, they want to escape this life and wait for the trials to be over and come back to live in bliss. But this life is so important, and same for the trials/crosses that we face.

A concluding remark is not to read the Da Vinci Code it is also neo-gnostic, and it is untrue no matter what Dan Brown would like you to believe, but if you do read it please read the Da Vinci Hoax or at least be aware of its existence. It is very good at exposing the errors in the Da Vinci Code. One such error is in the Da Vinci code it talks about how the Vatican was suppressing things in the 4th century, but the Vatican didn’t exist until the 1100s. Another error is that it says that no one believed Jesus was God until 325 when Emperor Constantine said so, and made the bible with revised versions on Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. This was not so, one Constantine had no part in making the Bible, two why would there be so many mayrters, what did they go to their death for a “great man.” What they all said, well i’ll live a hard life and make everyone mad at us, and never stop following him becasue Jesus was a great man. NO WAY! Who would do that. But I am not saying we should Censor what Dan Brown has to say, just let people be aware of its many errors.

Do read “the Da Vinci Code”.
And the “His Dark Materials” trilogy.
And “The Name of the Rose”
And…

Don’t miss out on good fiction.

To pirece them and hang 10 pound weights off them, of course.

none of your evidence is conclusive. you exist. even that can be debated. there’s not much wrong with your post on a philosophical leve i’m not sure what to do first, so i’ll just start with the underlined part.

You think there are prophesies that have been fulfilled. First, please quote a SPECIFIC instance of a SPECIFIC prediction. none of this metaphoric/nonspecific stuff about huge generalities that are likely to happen anyway. Second, use a source that isn’t the bible to verify that this event actually occured. Third assuming you can come up with something for the first 2, explain why anyone should believe your religion and not, say Hinduism, Buddism, Islam, Janeism, rastafarianism, etc etc, all of which have “miracles” and prophecies that have been fulfilled.

In Fatima, Portugal; there were three children that the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to. She told them many things, including but not only that World War II would happen, Russia would be converted, and the Holy Father (the pope) would have much to suffer. the quote for this is in part of one of the many visions of the Blessed Virgin. I will quote it to you now.

"You have seen hell, where the souls of poor sinners go. It is to save them that God wants to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart. If you do what I tell you, many souls will be saved, and there will be peace. This war will end, but if men do not refrain from offending God, another and more terrible war will begin during the pontificate of Pius XI. When you see a night that is lit by a strange and unknown light [this occurred on January 28, 1938], you will know it is the sign God gives you that He is about to punish the world with war and with hunger, and by the persecution of the Church and the Holy Father.

To prevent this, I shall come to the world to ask that Russia be consecrated to my Immaculate Heart, and I shall ask that on the First Saturday of every month Communions of reparation be made in atonement for the sins-of the world. If my wishes are fulfilled, Russia will be converted and there will be peace; if not, then Russia will spread her errors throughout the world, bringing new wars and persecution of the Church; the good will be martyred and the Holy Father will have much to suffer; certain nations will be annihilated. But in the end my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me, and she will be converted, and the world will enjoy a period of peace. In Portugal the faith will always be preserved…"

A maricle that happened there is this…CLICK HERE

In regard to part two of your question of why to believe Christianity, esp. the Catholic faith, is because it is the Truth. There is no way I can convince you, esp. on the Web, but if you are open to God and ask Him to reveal himself to you, and have an honest desire to know who God is, then He will tell you. I hold nothing against my brethren in other religions, such as muslims, protestants, hindus, and and Jews, but they know only part of the Truth, not that we know the whole Truth, but we know the most. There is a wheel of religions, the center is the Truth/God, each religion is a different distance away from the center, and each is moving towards it. Others have access to fast food resturants, and 1-3 star resturants, but we have access to 4&5 star resturants, metaphorically speaking. But the Church will not be made perfect until the second coming. I hold a huge respect for many non-christian religions such as islam. But mine is the most correct, I know this from God, both from Him speaking to me in my heart and from visions others have recieved that He has told me are true. But again you must ask Him to reveal Himself to you if you want to know the Truth. I cannot convince you by myself.

Name one person who hasn’t had “much to suffer.” Sorry, time is up… seriously, can’t these predictions be more specific so that every different side can’t interperet them the way they want?

one documented conversion/maricle case was a muslim got a fatal disease, prayed to God that he may be healed-he spent many hours on end in prayer-and Jesus appeared to him and said that He was Jesus Christ the God of the Catholic Christians and would heal him. And the muslim was healed. Needless to say he became Catholic.

P.S. no specifics on this will be given to protect the privacy of the individual.

o, and God does many signs to show that He exists, but He doesn’t give totally diffinative proof to His existence, it is part of faith, He allows there to be arguments-however ridiculous-so that people can keep free-will and not be robots, or anything like that. It is so great to come to God through faith instead of having to come to Him.

P.S. What were all you Americans feeling after 9/11, did some non church goers among you go to church, to confession, pray, ect. wheter or not you are now or were an athiest?
