I’ve been changing pedals back and forth on my MUni to ride indoors. WIth every change of the pedal, your chance of stripping threads increases. What I discovered, is a big fat DH tube (I bought, but never used) cut into slices, can cover up the metal perfectly. (a regular tube just gave me too much grief)
Hint…if you soak the rubber in hot water, it’ll expand, fitting over the pedal easier.
One pedal uses two pieces of rubber, one on each side of the spindle. or X’ing over the spindle if the other way wouldn’t stay on
I don’t like replacing pedals, as I can never remember which way to turn them. They’re always attached very tightly, and I don’t want to start kicking the spanner in the wrong direction.
When I take my uni to jugglesoc I generally don’t bother swapping the pedals. I like keeping the grip of the pins. Given what goes on in the hall, one of the largest on campus used for pretty much anything and everything, there are far worse things hitting the floor on a regular basis than pedals.
I use the little ditty “Right is right, left is wrong”. Meaning that the right-hand pedal has normal right-hand threading and the left-hand pedal has reverse threading.

fair enough.i would have to say that a person who doesnt put grease on their axle or tap on their cranks probobly has a better chance of striping pedal threads too

How far is London from Sudbury or Lively? I have to go to Sudbury in March or April sometime and I’ll be there for a couple of weeks. I know Ontario is a big @$$ place but how far apart are these places? I’d like to bring some unicycles up and have you drop a car on them for me. Actually, I’d also like to order one of Darren’s industrial, flourescent orange frames and hubs and have him ship it to you and then pick it up from you and carry it across the border myself.
Greyhound (http://www.greyhound.ca) clocks it between 8 and 10 hours from Sudbury to London, depending on what time of day you leave. I’d think you could knock some time off those figures, but not too much, as I think Greyhound is a fairly speedy mode of public transportation. The scary part is it’s $188 round-trip – a little less than what I’ve paid to fly round-trip from Toronto to Halifax (to go home for Christmas).
Yeah, Ontario is a big @$$ place. I think I will be 4 days down in a nickel mine and three days on the surface so that makes for long stretches of time. The Toronto thing sounds better because I could pick up a frame directly from Darren, you wouldn’t have far to drive, and the trip for me would be “shortened” somewhat.
