Do we really need weight reduction on a road unicycle?

What is the weight?
I do have somewhere a photo of a standard 36er wheel not sure if cranks etc are attached

I need the weight of the standard, not the pic. I can add the part required to compare them

Sorry I might have a photo of the weight of the orginal wheel somewhere on my phone.

What is the weight of your wheel out of interest

2.25kg

for comparison: about 3,3kg for a rather light tubeless aluminium rim 36er wheel.

a heavier 36er wheel should be over 4kg or 5kg.

I haven’t weighed the wheel on my Oracle 36 but here is some data from UDC:

Nimbus Dominator 2 rim: 1133g
Nimbus Aluminum 125mm hub: 380g
Nightrider tire: 1900g
Foss tube: 239g
Spokes: ~350g

These add up to about 4kg.

One can easily swap to a Nightrider Lite tire for a 500g weight reduction.

That is insane. I wonder what the components are. Worths its own topic of course!

Carbon rim
King George light tire
Ergal hub
TPU tube
UHMWPE spokes

Is there a LITE variant of the King George tire or it’s just the original one (which weighs 1780g)?

Yes. While Nimbus named their light tyre versions “lite” (Nightrider, TA), Quax named it “ultimate” (King Georg).

Cool! At 1240g it indeed is the lightest 36" tire.
