DO NOT READ
I do graphics at university (a large part of it is advertising) so I wrote this as an experiment to see how many people would click it.
I did.
This isn’t a very controlled experiment because it is perfectly easy to hover over the thread title and see the first little bit of what is written in the thread. I do this to most threads I click on, I did it to this one.
bummer
I thought it would just be the first line but clearly not.
I looked at it but didn’t read it. Hope that didn’t screw up your experiment.
I found your text treatment to be graphically boring, but with a decent amount of negative space for the message.
funny stuff
i didnt click it
I made one of these a long time ago.
But anyway, what are you trying to find out with this experiment?
It’s well known that screaming “DON’T LOOK AT ME!!!” will get lots of people looking at you…
If I would’ve known that you really didn’t want me to click, I wouldn’t have.
I think that is part of the experiment, seeing how many people clicked it.
I thought about hovering, but then just decided to suck it up and straight click before hovering.
How do multiple views by one person get factored in? I could get it to easily over 100,000 views in a fairly short amount of time.
Is there a way to do ^that^ without spending hours on the computer?
I hovered but then decided to click to see what the responses were. It is sort of a pointless experiment unless you can set up some sort of control to compare it to.
crap…i looked at it…
odd thread…
very true
but If I set up a thread saying READ THIS then that would be outright lying and annoy everyone because there would be nothing of any importance.
at least with this thread there is a warning that it’s going to be pointless, even if there is reverse psychology.
I may plan this experiment a bit better and try it again in a few months.
You were not here for the view boosting of most views.
Lets do some simple math.
Set up 10 pages of firefox, each page has 30 tabs open to this thread. That is 300 views.
Set them all to reload every second.
Go to sleep
300x60=18,000 views per minute.
18000x60=1,080,000 views per hour
1080000x5=5,400,000 views in five hours
That is an extreme example, I think the most I ever did was 5 or 6 windows each with 10 tabs. None the less it bogs down your computer and I think the most work I ever got done in one night on my own was around half a million views over seven or eight hours.
Anyways, gilby said a while back it’s not good for the servers for some reason or another and I have sense stopped. I wouldn’t boost this thread that much anyways, it’s not worth the trouble.
I looked, and I now have less brain cells.
I thought this would be a thread about discouraging the use of print media.
Thanks for your input, Steve. I followed the instructions and refrained from clicking. Then I saw that you replied and I thought, “now there’s an interesting fellow,” so I clicked. I did NOT, however, read the initial post because it explicitly said not to. All this suspense is getting to me, though – I think I’m going to go have a cheeseburger.
