Experience: 4 years riding, had built the uni the previous day…
Unicycle: 36" Schlumpf Guni
Time Taken: All Day
Its possibly the furthest I’ve rode without stopping for more than 10 mins, but it was only the test ride on my (still not totally complete) 36" Schlumpf, just doing laps of the local park in 1:1 and 1:1.5 and practicing freemounts and shifting. I will do some major distance on it next week, as I prepare for SSMM.
a.) What is the longest you’ve ever ridden on a unicycle in one day?
103 miles
b.) How many years, months, weeks, whatever of experience did you have before you did it?
3ish years. About 3 days between deciding to do the ride, and riding it.
c.) How big was your unicycle’s wheel?
36" wheel 125mm cranks
d.) How long did it take you?
9 hrs 51 mins including all rests for 100 miles of it, plus about 1 to get to the station at the end of the ride, and about 2 to ride home from the station in Nottingham.
Any similarity between this and Joe’s post is because it was the same ride. I think he did one more mile though, what with starting nearer my house.
Good advice that. I can recommend that if you’re planning routes, and happen to live within 50 miles or so of the seaside, planning routes that go to nice seaside towns is always a winner. I also like planning routes that have a train station at the half way point, cos then you can just catch a train back if you’re too tired.
Incidentally I don’t ride with a cycle computer either. On the 100 miler, John had one, but usually I just look up how far I’ve ridden on a map afterwards, calculating the average speed from that is easy (proper average not cheating ‘riding time’ average).
There seem to be a few UK coker riders on here and I’m really thinking another weekend of coker riding would be a good plan. We had an idea for a super ride the other day, from my house, 30 or so miles of road, followed by 20 miles of muni, followed by a 7 mile road ride back. It might be possible to visit the best tearoom in Britain as chosen by the British Tea Guild, and there’s a pub at about 40 miles too. I think it’ll be September before I have time to run it though.
a.) What is the longest you’ve ever ridden on a unicycle in one day? 20 miles (accidentally…i got lost)
b.) How many years, months, weeks, whatever of experience did you have 1 1/2 Months
c.) How big was your unicycle’s wheel? 20’ (i know im an idot)
d.) How long did it take you? 3 hours and a bit
a.) What is the longest you’ve ever ridden on a unicycle in one day?
100 miles
b.) How many years, months, weeks, whatever of experience did you have before you did it?
Not too sure - possibly 4.5 to 5 years.
c.) How big was your unicycle’s wheel?
36" wheel 125mm cranks. I did start off on 110 cranks, but half way I switched to the longer ones, for the reasons outlined below.
d.) How long did it take you?
Too long! We had a strong head wind for 80 miles, so it took us 14 painful hours in the end. We would have done it under the 10 hour mark if it wasn’t for the wind.
a.) What is the longest you’ve ever ridden on a unicycle in one day? 33.33 miles (Chilly Hilly Bicycle Classic, 2006)
b.) How many years, months, weeks, whatever of experience did you have before you did it? Absolutely no training specifically for the ride. I’ve been riding for about 4 years, and know my way around the uni pretty well. My longest ride before the 33.33 mile ride was about 10 miles or less.
c.) How big was your unicycle’s wheel? 29" (Nimbus 29er w/ Big Apple)
d.) How long did it take you? Too long - maybe 5 hours because of long hot dog ‘n’ coffee rest stops, newspaper interviews, and crazy big hills (hence “Chilly HILLY”). W/out precariously long rest stops and very tedious hills I probably could have averaged 9 or 10 mph.
JC and TC crossing the finish line, long after 99% of the cyclists:
What is the longest you’ve ever ridden on a unicycle in one day?
61 miles, followed by 59 miles the next day
How many years, months, weeks, whatever of experience did you have before you did it?
I’d been riding unis about 5 years, and riding a Coker for about 2 years. I also rode about 700 training miles in the four months leading up to the event. (Learning: this year, I will train fewer total miles before the event, but they will be miles with lots more hills than last year.)
How big was your unicycle’s wheel?
36" wheel 140mm cranks
How long did it take you?
About 8 1/2 hours, although that was with a number of breaks, full lunch stop, etc.
What is the longest you’ve ever ridden on a unicycle in one day?
I’ve ridden 72 miles a couple of times.
How many years, months, weeks, whatever of experience did you have before you did it?
Had been riding about 6 years when I did it the first time. My first long ride was in June '99 (44 miles) which was 3 months after getting my first Coker and 1 1/2 years after learning to ride.
How big was your unicycle’s wheel?
36" wheel/125mm cranks
How long did it take you?
Total time including rests was 8 and change. Total riding time 7 hours.
a.) 19m
b.) 6 weeks
c.) 20" (lol it’s all I have)
d.) Can’t remember. Quite a while though. It was mostly through woodland and winding footpaths and I ended up pretty sore.
a.) What is the longest you’ve ever ridden on a unicycle in one day? 15 miles
b.) How many years, months, weeks, whatever of experience did you have before you did it? 5 years on a unicycle, one year on a coker
c.) How big was your unicycle’s wheel? 36"
d.) How long did it take you? around 2 hours
My two brothers and my nephew rode RAGBRAI last week. Mouse, I believe you talked with one of my brothers. His name was Chris from Durango, Colorado. Maybe you remember him.
