disk copy: linux dd

JRM, thanks for the tip on using dd to copy my old drive to my new drive.

One question, though: how long should it take to copy a 60 GB drive?
It’s been running for hours now, and dd has no status output, so I don’t
know if anything is even happening. (other than the hdd light)

Re: disk copy: linux dd

I know at work for a 20 gig drive it took a little over 2 hours…

Well, when I left home this morning, it was going on 12 hours. Seems a
bit slow to me.

Well, it completed somewhere between 12 and 22 hours. (while I was at work).

IT WORKED FLAWLESSLY. If anyone ever needs to clone or image a disk, I
suggest you use a linux boot disk and dd.

Thanks JRM!

No problem

Just another reason to use linux.

heh I was just thinking… I remember posting to le.discuss asking “What is
Linux?” Now I feel handicapped when I use windows.

The only thing I don’t like is you have to break the law just to watch a dvd
that you bought. :-/
