Digital Photo Printer

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about these little gadgets that
allow you to print your digital photos at home. I’m talking about the
ones that print actual photos on actual photo paper, not inkjets with
special “photo” paper (which don’t ever look right).

I know there are a bunch of machines dedicated to this on the market,
but I’ve never seen the actual quality that they put out. I also don’t
know how expensive they are to maintain (paper and ink).

If anyone can point me in the right direction, thanks.

Thanks Deb! Looks very informative, I’ll spend some time with it later
tonight.

Re: Digital Photo Printer

Well as far as I know most of the cheap so called home photo printers are in
fact inkjets, only the more expensive professional versions are dye
sublimation (or other high color depth printing process) printers so I doubt
the cheap ones do any better job then a new mid range inkjet printer.

Re: Digital Photo Printer

The one they mark “buy now” is a bubble jet which is basically an inkjet
2400 X 1200 resolution printer so if you have an inkjet that can print to
that resolution and you buy the special photo ink cartridges and photo paper
the out put should be very comparable. They do list some dye sub printers
but I did not bother to read the specs on those.

Almost all of the printers I have been looking at are dye sublimation
printers that are dedicated to printing photos.

I did like a few of what I saw, but I’d really like to try one of these
things out before buying. I’ll have to take an SM card to the store with
a test photo and see if I can try it out.
