Differnence between bearings ?

Hi people,

do someone know if there is a standard for the distance measure between the two bearings? If you don’t know what I mean:

(Paintshop isn’t as comfortable for technical drawings as AutoCAD)

I ask this question because I’ll order the Onza hub in the next time and want to use my “old” frame for it. It would be bad if the measure between the bearings would bigger or smaller then… . Or can I change the position of the bearings on the axle ? I think at hubs like the Suzue it is possible…

thank you for your help.
greets

_Felix

I have a Suzue hub here & I have just measured it at 81mm to the inside of the bearings as per the ? on your diagram.

I know it is normal to adjust the fork arms a bit to accommodate perhaps 5mm differences, perhaps more??

Someone who can give the measure for a Onza hub too ??

it would be great!

My Onza hub measurement is 86mm between the inside of the bearings (the ? on _Felix’s drawing).

The thickness of the bearings on my Suzue & my Onza is 12mm

The Suzue bearing outside diameter is 40mm
The Onza bearing outside diameter is 42mm

I believe you could use a bearing puller on the Suzue hub to pull the bearings back a little, but there is only about 1 to 1.5 mm of shaft before the start of the square part of the shaft.

Thank you Mike once more. Now I know much more about the hub and can plan to buy it in the next time

thanks

One question more about the ONZA-Hub:
When I mount the crank with the 48splines on the splines at the hub ends, can I push the crank into both directions a little bit ? It’s important for me how long the spline-end’s on the hub are… . When I use my selfmade frame, the bearing holders are a few millimeters thicker than the URL=http://www.unicycle.uk.com/shop/shopdisplayproduct.asp?catalogid=171]standard bearings holders. If the crank’s needs the complete length of the spline-end’s (of the the hub) to fit on it, there would no place for my bearing holder…and I can’t use the crank/hub.

When someone know what I’ll say with my bad english, please help me  - thanks

If you look at this pic you’ll see there is a spacer between the crank and the bearing, which means the bearing position is changeable (I think). Ask Roger about the size and position of the spacers as he knows but I suspect it should be possible to fit the hub to different bearing holders. When the hub and cranks are available on their own that is (I want them too).

Your English is better than my German.

Cheers, Gary

The crank slides down the spines until it meets the spacer. The spacer on my Onza is 12mm long and enforces the gap between the bearing & the crank.

I have been told that the spacer is 3mm longer than the original design & I wonder if future Onzas may be sold with a 9mm spacer?

Hey Mike and Gary,

thank you for the great help and for the “encrypting” of my english. One the pic at unicycle.uk.com I see the black spacer, right. If the cranks are completly mounted and fixed on the picture, I think it would be no problem to use my own frame - with his ow broad bearing holders. The strenght of the material isn’t as thick as the 12 millimeters of the spacer… . Now I can order the hub, sorry the complete unicycle…

thanks for the help, and mike for the axpansion of the drawing - perfect

PS: (I hope) it would be great to ride with the splined hubs and cranks…

Re: Differnence between bearings ?

You can move the bearings by making new bearings spacers, they do not quite
match the susue/profile at the moment but the next batch will. Making new
bearing spacers could also reduce the width by about 6mm if you really
wanted… have done on mine

I can give you a CAD drawing if you would like.

Roger

Yes Roger, a CAD drawing would be nice…
Sorry I must go to work now, thank you.
