The Twin Cities Unicycle Club has just announced to its members the following:
“Nintendo wants TCUC to do a show at the Mall of America???”
This is really great opportunity for unicyclists to promote unicycling world
wide! However, to be in the show, a unicyclist must be one of the best (seems
reasonable, though it would be nice if less skilled riders could participate as
well), and must be a TCUC member (this seems less reasonable, since this may
prevent some highly skilled local riders from participating).
An exclusive club activity like this can be a very good morale booster for a
club. Such a positive effect can not be ignored. However, this doesn’t provide
any real positive effect for other local clubs who are excluded from
participation. To me, a person quite ignorant of the processes and politics of
running a club, it seems opening up this show to members of other clubs would be
a good idea. In my opinion, so long as a unicyclist has the necessary skills and
performs adequately in all required practices for the show, he should be allowed
to perform in it, regardless of club affiliation.
It would also be nice if opportunities such as this were communicated faster in
unicycling circles, i.e. IUF and national unicycling unions and local clubs, so
the leaders of these organizations might at least attempt to emulate these
unicycling promotion successes (in the making).
Now let’s see what we can do to get a lot more “Nintendo” (commercial) backers
of unicycling promotion!
