If the Moon wants to go to war with Earth, all they really need to do is drop rocks on us.
No, really. Say you have a linear accelerator up there, that can lob cargo into orbit at a high enough speed to escape the Moon’s gravity. Drop large chunks of rock on Earth. What would be the speed of their impact? Right. It would be like dropping nuclear bombs. Aim them at the cities and you could make a real mess with minimal use of material and energy. You woudn’t need fleets of ships, except much later, to finish things off. Then bring in your swastika-shaped battle cruisers.
They actually do drop rocks in the movie. Not quite the way you describe it, though.
