Diagnose this, please

Ok, you know the feeling you get when you’re riding and the crank is slightly loose? It feels like a jump in the rotation? Well, mine is feeling like that. The crank is on tightly. The pedal is on tightly. Is there something queer with the hub or something?

your crank is bent from it spanking the pavement sidwayz.

or

your pedal axle is bent from that big drop you last took.(put some other pedalz on to see which is the case)

Bent crank, angling the pedal? Geared hub?

Maybe it’s your pedal bearing? Mine got broken a few weeks ago. It
felt more like a click than a “jump” though.

There’s a couple possibilities to explore…

-Your Pedals may be tightly connected to the cranks but the pedal bearings
could still be loose. Most pedals have a cap on the end that can be removed
and the bolt there can be tightened…make sure not to over tighten.

-Something may be loose in the hub bearing assembly. If you have bearings
that are press fit into the housing (i.e. Miyata) then they may need some
loctite an or the fork blades may need to be “bent” closer to each other
slightly to provide a tighter fit.

-The point where the bearing housings attach to the frame may be loose and
need some tightening. You can check this by holding the wheel firmly and
trying to twist the seat/frame back and forth.

Hope this helps,

I know you dropped this sig line but yet, you (or Sophie’s Mom) may
have been onto something. According to the Patent Agency, of all
patents publicized in Japan last fiscal year, 6% or some 22,500 were
related to nanotechnology (Nikkei, 30-Apr-2002)

(Some of those patents may cover things looking like little hogs, who
knows??)
