I’ve been thinking of buying devil sticks but I have no idea what kind to buy. I was considering buying flower sticks to start with but the name sounds ever so slightly less cool. Anyone got any suggestions?
Flower sticks are suuuper easy to use, I personaly love them, I find my tricks have way more flow with them; that being said I also enjoy devil sticks as they go so much faster.
I would suggest getting some flower sticks to learn tricks on then move onto devil sticks from there if you want. Another thing to think about particularly with devil sticks is weight. I have some fire devil sticks that are really heavy and I like them alot, but I went and tried a normal devil stick that weighed about half as much and I hate it, it was like a twig that spun.
I have some trigon dube devil sticks. I like them alot more than flower sticks because you can do helicopter spins and a few other stuff flower sticks cannot.
Go devil sticks, with the flower sticks you will eventually (if you enjoy it) want to upgrade to devil sticks anyway. I have no idea about brands but mine a semi-heavy and as ntappin said and i agree, the lighter ones are “like a twig being spun”. there is no real feeling to it. i guess the word is ‘Beefy’
wow thats hilarious i just recently moved home and was cleaning out my closet and found my devil sticks and started playing with them lol… no idea what kind they are though…
Buy Lunastix, they make a great first pair. I have 2 pairs and love them both. But last week I actually bought Light-up devil stix at my local headshop. They light up in 7 different colors on each side and can even cycle through the rainbow while you use them. A super-hit at raves!
Devil sticks are the onlything I can ‘juggle’, but it’s uber fun once you get good enough to just use one stick.
For flowerstick’s I’ve used/owned Mystix, Lunastix, and several no-names. Mystix are the best.
For Devilsticks I have a Dube (trigon), Todd Smith Mylar, Todd Smith Cloth, and two Renegade Mylars (plus several no-names). Dubes are WAY too heavy if you want to do fast manipulation. Todd Smith are a little on the light side, but the cloth one is a great learner. Renegade’s are just about perfect, and are what I would recomend. If you go to each of their websites you can see how many ounces each stick is.
You could buy a flower stick and call it a devil stick. Non jugglers won’t know any different.

okay, thanks everyone, i think i’ve decided on devilsticks. i looked into buying renegades but their outside US shipping is a bit dodgy so i’m ordering AJAs from oddballs.co.uk. can’t wait til they get here…
I regularly do helicopter spins, there is nothing you can do with devil sticks that you cannot do with flower sticks, you just need some heavy flower sticks that will spin nicely. Helicopter spins are actualy pretty easy with flower sticks.
Thats awesome I bought some LED flower sticks from Goudurix, they don’t seem to list them anymore but here are some pictures of them in the dark with a long exposure.
You may recognize the picture in my avatar, as one of them, although it looks like smoke.
I also own some fire devil sticks, that are really nice, I picked them up from Goudurix aswell, they roll like mad, but are nice and heavy for good for spins and stuff.
Helicopters are easy with flower sticks, but there are many things you can do with devil sticks that you can’t do with flower sticks and vise-versa. When I say “can’t” here I mean “it might be possible, eventually, but it’d look dumb and not be worth it.” A quick example would be the buzz-saw - very difficult is not impossible and not worth learning with flower sticks. (where you make the stick spin forward perpendicular to the body, like a buzz saw or wheel - uses both hand sticks)
Again, I would have to disagree, I find buzz saws really easy with flower sticks, and because the ends aren’t so damn hard, I’m not afraid of hitting myself in the face so I’m more apt to try variations. I was doing buzzsaws with my fire sticks once and got hit in the lip with the end which is a solid block of aluminum or something, that hurt like hell, made it swell up all crazy like.
Why would you say that a buzz saw is hard to do with flowersticks?
What other tricks are harder with flowersticks?
What are devil sticks? I looked em up but didn’t find nothin.
You must be a good GOD person.
No good GOD person would ever touch devil sticks!
They rotate too slowly for me, so it’s hard to keep it going without smacking myself in the face. Most flowersticks are longer than devilsticks so I get hit with flowersticks and not devilsticks.
Really fast vertical tricks where you change directions quickly I don’t think are very easy with flowersticks because of their super slow rotations speed. Flowersticks have a greater percentage of weight out on their ends so their inertia is much greater. Tricks like Mills Mess just don’t look good on flowersticks - I don’t think.
Going the otherway, a lot of the really smooth single-stick dance like motions are way easier on flowersticks because they rotate so slowly.
There is a trick that goes really fast that I don’t think looks good slow - where you juggling all three sticks, go into the standard idle, and then pull the devil stick out with your hands (alternating) and do a half juggle for every half or one and a half idle. It looks pretty sweet if done fast. Most tricks where you throw your handsticks look better with devilsticks I think.
The flowersticks I use are pretty heavy and have rubber tassles that don’t create alot of drag, most of slowness of my sticks comes from all of the weight being at the ends and not from drag, which means that all I have to do to speed it up easily is put a bit of force getting it started up.
What kind of tassles do you have?
I have several flowersticks, mystix, lunastix, buncha no-names - but the slowness isn’t from drag at all. It’s from the weight being out at the ends and being heavier creating more interia. It’s not hard to get them going fast, but it is hard to do fast vertical tricks like Mills Mess and the juggling move I told you about because it involves the sticks changing direction quickly. More inertia makes that difficult and look kinda lame. I need to be able to have the stick reverse direction with just a flick of my wrist, not an entire arm movement.
When I use flowersticks I do more of a smooth rotating slower style that doesn’t involve lots of jerky moves where the stick reverses it’s direction. With Devil Sticks I do tons of moves like that.
