Despair & Axel Twist

Well, I had the monster C-Clamp out, the lock tight ready, and pressed my crank arms back on, when I notice one small problem: the cranks are not 180 apart. I began to curse myself for such a stupid blunder- when I examined the axel. The cranks were oriented perfectly; the axel was twisted at the taper (most certainly from hopping) 5 deg. SCREAM.

This was a stock United axel. Is there any reason to expect more from, say, a Suzue hub? Or am I doomed to empty my wallet on a Profile? Anybody have axel twist, there?

sigh

I guess It’s time to start hopping on the other side… maybe I can twist the axel back without snaping it… rrrrrright…

Christopher

I hope so, Im having my wheel built with one at the moment. After twisting one hub already, I know what its like and I dont want to go through that again!

I have the Suzue on my muni and have been doing lots of two foot drops
lately with no twisting in the axle. My cranks are holding up so far
also, but I expect that to change if I drop any higher. When I break
the hub, I’ll buy the Profile, unless there is a cheaper alternative by
then. Joe in Iowa
