Depression

hey dave, good to see you.

clinical depression is an actual “disease”, and really can be only treated
by a doctor. Here is an article I found at drkoop about depression, I
don’t know if it will be helpful to you:
http://www.drkoop.com/dyncon/article.asp?at=&id=1231

Gary might be able to shed some more light on the subject, I believe he
may have experience in dealing with it from different perspectives…

I know I haven’t been around here for awhile, but I had a question and I
figured this would be a good place ask.

anyhow, a friend of mine is suffering from depression. I think it’s quite
serious, and I know she’s recieving professional help for it. However does
anyone here who has experience with the subject have any tips on how I can
help as a friend. I feel quite helpless and I don’t know what to say…I
don’t want to see her hurt herself again.

Dave,

This is some advice that people brush off about depression and they
shouldn’t, because it’s proven to be quite effective. If you have a friend
who is depressed, encourage EXERCISE! Go on a jog or play some tennis or
do something, anything active – there are both psychological and
biological reasons for this, yet it seems many doctors simply prescribe
Prozac or other anti-depressants because… well… who knows.

Jay Tierney – jay@jaytierney.com

Depression is an actual disease… One of the best things that you can do
as a friend is for her to make sure that she knows that it is not her
fault and just be supportive, but don’t dwell on it too much because that
makes it worse. … And there is also a lot and a lot of literature
involving exercise, just as jay had mentioned. Go for a run with her… or
something.

I would but I can’t today it has been the worst day of my life I woke up
this morning and turned to see if Lee was awake and instead found that he
had died during the night.

That is very sad. At least he went peacefully … but it leaves you
without your friend.

Very sad.
