Denver and "The Murder Weed"

On Tuesday, November 1st, Denver residents voted 53 to 47% in favor of legalizing the possession of an ounce or less of Marijuana for people 21 and over, however, it is still illegal by state and federal law, but why? It seems that on October 2nd, 1937 the Marijuana Stamp Act was passed outlawing the use and possession of Cannabis. Samuel R. Caldwell was the first person in the US to be arrested on this charge on the very same day (13 blocks from my old house).

The Marijuana Stamp Act was passed with the argument vilifying the drug as a “Murder Weed narcotic” which turned men into beasts under its influence. To fortify their argument, they linked the drug to minorities.

I myself don’t use marijuana for my own reasons, but I don’t agree with the the federal law. It is not a narcotic and studies show that people under the influence of pot are much less agressive than those under the influence of alcohol.

That’s a little history and my openion, what do you think?
