i just shot a 8 point buck and a coyote, i shot the deer around 1000 feet from my house and went back to get my dad to help me bring it in, but he wasnt home. So i went to do it myself so i go back out and theres a coyote tryin to eat my deer so i shoot that too and then i have too bring thme both in by myself and now i have to go clean them

NIce, Isn’t hunting fun!? How long did you wait before getting the deer after you shot it? It seems like it would take awhile before coyotes get it. We have tons of yotes around here. I should take some of the buggers out!

People are People, Animals are Animals. The deer are dying down out here, because of the yotes, and Wolves. It’s not just random killing. Plus you can eat them, and sell the furs. You dont just shoot and leave your deer there do you? You shoot it to eat it. Same thing for the coyotes.

In my opinion, that’s just STUPID. Should we make it against the law for animals to kill other animals? Snakes will not eat mice. Birds will not eat rodents. Fish shall not eat other fish. Please. I don’t have a grip with hunting. If you hunt for food and leather and to make a living or because the deer or whatever are being eaten alive by ticks and what not, I don’t mind that at all. I don’t like when people just shoot animals just to kill. That’s not cool. Have a purpose for it.
1000 feet is about 333 yards. Not bad. Did you use iron sights or did you cheat and use a scope?

I saw an owl catch a mouse (or some other small rodent) two nights ago. That was cool. The owl flew down from a tree by the driveway and got himself some dinner. It’s not often that you get to see that.

I can honestly say that I believe a human life is infinitely more valuable than an ant’s. “But deer aren’t ants”, you might say. Well, you could say that, but then your argument would be lost in a swirling hypocrisy vortex.
Hunting simply to go out and kill animals is bad. I will agree with you there. But if you go out and kill something (say, a deer), and you use the animal’s meat, skin, etc., I don’t think that’s a bad thing at all.

Im not one for hunting. Meaning, I wont hunt and shoot an animal. I do however like guns and go shooting at the range or set up targets.
Hunting for food is okay with me, I still dont like the fact of killing the deer, or coyotes, but it ‘had’ to be done. Killing just to kill is stupid, but when you take the animal that you have shot, and use up its meat, its fur, and as much of the animal you can, then its ok.
Just think of Indians and way back in the olden days, they had to hunt because if they didn’t, they would die. From hunger, being too cold, have nothing to trade and couldn’t get the necessary items they need. Animals do the same thing, its jsut a giant food chain. Humans usually being at the top.
Also, coyotes used to be endangered, but their numbers are growing, and will soon be taken off the list. The thing is though, farmers and others can shoot and kill them because they kill their livestock, just like they were trying to get the deer. Its almost a necessity to shoot at them or else they will just come back and take what is yours.

Congrats on the deer. I don’t really have the time or patience to hunt myself but I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t. I love jerkey, so if you make up a bunch I’ll take some.
I usually get a pound or two each year from my customers.
As for hunting, if we didn’t hunt the deer, they would over populate and starve. In this area the number of deer can be so populated that they get hit by cars, destroy landscapes that people have spent thousands on over night.
I have been out with a friend of mine that has a license to rehab, and raise Hawks. Hunting with a Hawk is just plain awesome. I saw a squirrel jump from a 75 foot tree, and the Hawk plowed him into the ground at what seemed to be over a hundred miles an hour. Should we stop Hawks from hunting squirrels? Seems kind of cruel to the squirrel.
I don’t think he shot out of his window. The deer was 1000’ from the house but he didn’t say where he was.
Coyote endangered? Is it legal to shoot the coyote? What do you do with the dead coyote? Coyote jerkey? Would it be possible to get the coyote away from your deer (safely) without shooting it?
