Deep Water Challenge

Riding after the rain three days ago gave me the idea for a special challenge:

What is the deepest water you can ride through? I have no proof for my claim since there is no video of it, but my puddle was about 8 inches (20 cm) deep. I know that’s not much but it can be considered a starting point.

Here are the rules:

  1. video documentation of the ride
  2. the ride has to start and end outside the water
  3. no breathing apparatus allowed
  4. the deepest point reached has to be measured

I think some interesting videos can come from this challenge.
Looking forward to your contributions. Older videos should be allowed, if they make an estimate of water depth possible.

Doesn’t meet your rules but worth mentioning Ashrita Furman of course.

Interesting video indeed!

  1. Giraffes are not allowed!

Peter

Maybe there should be two categories: non-giraffe-unicycles and giraffes. Would be interesting to see someone ride a giraffe through 20-foot deep water!

Riding on the Beach

Does it count when you rode on a beach and the tide was coming in a few hours afterwards, you would have been ridden 1 or 2 meters under water?

Am I the only one who feels like I’ve been there before? (even if I probably haven’t). (It is broken English, isn’t it?)

Where was it fetzenschorsch ?

Here is a couple of pics from where I also play at the beach, unfortunately I have no photo of when I rode in the see on another beach.

(Crozon , France)

Saint Michel-en-Grève near Lannion

incredible !! now I know why I had this feeling that I’ve been there before !
I had been living in Saint Michel-en-Grève for 4 years !!! :astonished: :astonished: :astonished:
(and in Lannion 4 years just before).

I left this area in 2005 to go back to Paris suburbs.

It would count, if you were idling all through high tide!

I canˋt idle nor ride that long, so I needed a tsunami to fulfill your rules.
But a tsunami would have been a UPDWC — unplanned deep water challange

Unicycling in neck deep water might be good for bouyancy would help a beginner learn basic balance.

Then, as the rider progresses, gradually drain the swamp or pool until many of the movements and balance can be done without it.

Looking forward to seeing some new training videos out there of people using this method to learn.

Got me a Hatchet now. Deepest so far was about 10cm, Video on muni chat group in facebook. Didn’t measure the depth „officially“ though.

Definitely less than Onewheelhenni’s 20cm but video proofed

  1. video documentation of the ride

    🤷*♂️

See video that’s 46 seconds long. There were 3 water crossings on this ride, I was a chicken and only tried the third one (and stopped halfway) but my friend @agape rode them all. I think they were up to 25cm deep.
The video was recorded as a 360 degree video, sorry if you can’t properly view it!

Watch your bearings(wheel and cranks)

Hope you have some spare bearings, because getting water( or even salt water :astonished: ) into the axle or even the pedals is not going to be good for them.

If you do make sure you wipe them dry, but be careful using an air duster or compressed air. You will push out the old grease. In which case, if you know how to remove the bearing seal squirt some grease back in.

So, I didn’t quite make it out the other side, but I figured this makes honorable mention. My favorite local bike path had flooded and I was curious to know how deep it was and determined to attempt it. This was with my 26" muni (wheel diameter 30") so the water was 29" at the point I fell off, but it got much deeper beyond that point. This is the first time posting a video. Hopefully the link works!

I know my experience doesn’t quite follow all the rules but thought it was fun and I wanted to share it here. My favorite trail had flooded. I was curious to know just how deep it was and also determined to try and ride through it. This was on my 26" muni (wheel diameter 30") so the deepest part at the point I fell off was 28". :astonished:
