D-Day + 60 years

With the 60 year anniversary of D-Day on Sunday and WW2 being in the media alot at the moment I thought I’d start a thread on what our Parents, Grandparents, Greatgrandparents did in the war on and who they served with, (allied or axis) or who knows, maybe there are some forum users who are old enough to have served. Both my Grandfathers were navy men, one in the merchant navy who never talked about it much and one in the royal navy who loves to talk about it, and served on HMS Nelson for most of the war.

grandfather enlisted and did some boring crap in europe, didn’t shoot anyone or anything

great uncle was some sorta spy behind enemy lines…story goes that these ppl who parachuted down behind enemy lines had a 90% chance of dying. anyways, he survived, but went mad a few years after the war ended and died of unknown causes.
