Cyclocross

I had a go at a local cyclocross event last weekend. There was a reasonable
mixture of riders (52) in the adult event from the hardened specialists with
drop-bar cyclocross bikes through to local youths on dirt-jump mountain bikes
and myself and Geoff on unicycles. The race lasted for 50 minutes before a bell
sounded and you complete the following 1.2 mile lap. The circuit was mostly
grass with technical sections, short-sharp hills and obstacles like steps and
logs where most riders would dismount/remount. After going flat out for the
first lap, I settled down to a reasonable pace stopping only to tighten my
saddle bolts and drain a bottle of flat coke. I think I completed 5 or 6 laps
and Geoff 1 less, I beat at least one bike whilst my friends riding Mountain
bikes only lapped me twice. The organisers were pleased with the unexpected
unicycle participation and retrospectively introduced a prize. Maybe I’ll
recruit a few more Muniers next year.

Way to go Leo. Lets get unicycles into all the things two wheels do… I’m
